Just 100 years ago in 1924, Lake Ronkonkoma was a bustling destination, known as a popular summer resort for city dwellers looking to escape the heat. The lake, steeped in legend and natural beauty, attracted visitors from all over Long Island NYC and beyond.

The area around Lake Ronkonkoma was dotted with charming summer cottages, hotels, and boarding houses. These establishments catered to vacationers seeking a serene retreat by the water.

The lake was the center of recreational activities. Boating, fishing, and swimming were popular pastimes. The beaches were lively, filled with families enjoying picnics, sunbathing, and socializing.

The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) made it easier for people to travel from New York City to Lake Ronkonkoma. The area was easily accessible, which added to its appeal as a summer hotspot.

Nice weather continues overall today though we did include the slight chance for a scattered shower or thunderstorm. For most of you this is not an issue. Tropical Storm Ernesto is bringing torrential rains to Puerto Rico today and will head up the coast offshore, rough the surf up at the beaches this weekend. Also coming this weekend will be clouds, humidity and showery rains.
