From a roadside refuge to a legendary barbecue destination, the Lincoln Park Restaurant & Motel holds a powerful place in Rocky Mount’s history.

Opened in 1953 during the height of segregation, Lincoln Park was more than a restaurant and motel—it was a safe haven for Black travelers navigating the Jim Crow South, a Green Book-listed landmark, and a gathering place where food, music, and community thrived. From Clarence Pittman’s famous pit-cooked barbecue to performances by icons like Mahalia Jackson and B.B. King, its walls witnessed resilience, culture, and joy in the face of injustice.

Want to know how one family-run business became both a culinary legend and a cornerstone of African American history in Eastern North Carolina?
You’ll have to read the full story.

In this episode, we sit down with Matt Dameron, a stand-up comedian based in North Carolina whose comedy is deeply rooted in his upbringing right here in Rocky Mount. Matt grew up with a classic rural Southern background—fishing, riding four-wheelers, working land—and that “country life meets small-town reality” perspective has become a defining thread in his stand-up.

Matt began performing comedy about seven years ago and has steadily built his career through relentless touring and repeated gigs. Along the way, he’s found a unique balance: embracing his Southern roots while telling stories on his own terms. His authenticity and sharp observational style have earned him spots sharing the stage with major names like comedian David Lucas.

We talk about Matt’s journey into comedy, the grind of touring, and why his brand of lived-experience, Southern-flavored stand-up resonates with audiences looking for something real, relatable, and unfiltered. Tune in to hear how a Rocky Mount native is carving out space in the national comedy scene—without losing where he came from.

In this episode, we sit down with John Lea and Gardner Noble of Simmons & Harris, a full-service commercial real estate firm based in Rocky Mount. As key brokers serving the industrial, land, office, retail, flex, and multifamily markets, John and Gardner join Benton Moss, President & CEO, for a wide-ranging conversation about the firm’s strategy, the region’s economic momentum, and the future of commercial real estate in Eastern North Carolina.

We discuss the exciting news that construction has officially begun on Building #1 at the Rocky Mount Industrial Village, with additional flex and industrial spaces planned. This development signals rising demand for logistics and industrial facilities in the Twin Counties—driven by the region’s competitive costs, strong workforce, and strategic transportation access. John and Gardner break down why tenants and investors are increasingly looking east, and how Simmons & Harris is positioning itself through integrated management, leasing, construction, and redevelopment services to support long-term regional growth.

Our conversation also explores broader economic themes: the need for workforce housing, the importance of infrastructure investment, and the area’s potential to diversify beyond traditional agriculture and manufacturing. With thoughtful industrial recruiting and coordinated development, the region is poised to attract new sectors, strengthen employment opportunities, and elevate commercial property values.

Tune in for an inside look at Eastern North Carolina’s evolving commercial landscape—and what Simmons & Harris sees coming next for Rocky Mount and the Twin Counties.
