A lifelong country music fan, I first started in radio 40 years ago. My experience includes being a disc jockey at stations whose formats included Country, Top 40, and Oldies. Other broadcasting experience includes news, sports and traffic. In addition to radio I have worked the night club scene, operated a private DJ business, and have emceed special events for entertainers including Josie Waverl

y and Terry Lee Goffey. Now, I have the privilege to take that experience and put together a show for you each week that features the very best in classic country. Each week, my goal is to entertain you with great music interspersed with occasional stories about the artists and their music. My objective is to give YOU a reason to WANT to tune in to Classic Country Weekend by providing a unique show that isn't quite like anything else.

Coming up this morning on this weeks Classic Country Weekend...

In the first hour we'll spotlight two of country music's beloved female country artist. One who made her Grand Ole Opry debut sixty four years ago this week, and one who signed her very first recording contract on this very date back in 1960.

In our second hour we'll talk about a Shel Silverstein song Bobby Bare recorded 52 years ago today, although it wasn't released until 1976. We'll also have Tom T Hall's very first number one song as well as music from Red Sovine, Merle Haggard, Kenny Rogers, Ray Stevens and more.

Hour number three is packed with great country classics from Loretta Lynn and Gene Watson to Alabama, Sammy Kershaw, and Doug Stone. We'll even tell you why Doug Stone changed his name.

Pardon my voice however as I am fighting off a cold that has lasted well over a week now. Hopefully all the great music we have lined up makes up for it. 😎

In hour #1 we'll feature a song that was so popular when it was first released that it simultaneously went to number one on 3 different charts by 3 separate artists. Minnie Pearl was of course best know for her comedy skits, but in 1966 she scored a top 10 hit on the country charts. We'll have that one for you later in the hour.

In the first hour we'll tell you which Grand Ole Opry star celebrated their 87th birthday yesterday. Fifty years ago this week, Moe Bandy charted his very first single which we'll listen to together. One Arkansas town indirectly connects three country music legends, Conway Twitty, Claude King and Merle Kilgore. I'll tell you all about it in the second half of the hour!

In hour number 2, we'll have Barbara Mandrells' first Top 5 single, along with music from Jerry Reed, Ed Bruce, Johnny Cash, and this weeks CCW Four Play segment.

If you have Conway Twitty's "Mr. T" album, you may have noticed that his hit song "Tight Fittin' Jeans" doesn't sound quite the same as it does on the radio. We'll explain just why that is in hour number 3. 41 years ago this week, a song written by the Bee Gee's would go on to become a triple platinum international crossover hit for one of the most beloved country duos of the 80's. We'll have that for you as well as music from Charly McClain, George Strait, Restless Heart, Marty Stuart, and much much more.

So grab that cup of Joe (or if you're a night shifter like me, an ice cold beer... I won't judge), and get ready for 3 hours of the very best country music from the sixties through the eighties and beyond.

I am taking a survey. Please comment with your thoughts as to which you would prefer.

Less music from the 50's and 60's, and more music from the 80's and early to mid 90's.

More music from the 50's and 60's and less music from the 90's?

Mostly just music from the 70's and 80's

Leave it alone.
