Join the Rochester Kwanzaa Coalition for a powerful 7-day city wide celebration of culture, unity, and purpose from December 26–January 1 as we honor all Seven Principles of Kwanzaa with community, creativity, and intention.
Day 1: Umoja (Unity)
December 26 | 5:00–7:30 PM | Rochester City Hall
Opening Ceremony, Honors Award Presentation, remarks from city leadership, performances, children’s program, and healthy refreshments.
Day 2: Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)
December 27 | 1:00–4:00 PM | Kate Gleason Auditorium, Rochester Public Library
Film screening, community reflections, youth programming, and cultural presentations.
Day 3: Ujima (Collective Work & Responsibility)
December 28 | 5:00–7:30 PM | Clinton-Baden Recreation Center
Community service focus, local leaders, youth presentations, performances, and
refreshments.
Day 4: Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics)
December 29 | 6:00–9:00 PM | Boys & Girls Club of Rochester
Real estate panel hosted by Northstar Real Estate & Key Bank, small business networking,
youth entrepreneur showcase, and a community marketplace.
Day 5: Nia (Purpose)
December 30 | 5:00–7:30 PM | Adams Street Recreation Center
Naming workshop, drum & dance workshop, cultural storytelling, youth activities.
Day 6: Kuumba (Creativity)
December 31 | 5:00–8:00 PM | David Gantt Recreation Center
The community feast, fashion show, live performances, awards, and closing cultural
community celebration.
Day 7: Imani (Faith)
January 1 | Celebrated at Home with Family
A day of reflection, gratitude, and renewal.
