[9:57 PM] - The Winter Storm Warning has expanded further north, and all of us are under either a Winter Storm Watch, Warning, or Winter Weather Advisory. We remain in Alert Day status throughout Tuesday, and we are expected to see our highest snowfall accumulations of the 2023-2024 season. Snowfall totals could range anywhere from 2-6" by Highway-14, and have the potential to approach double digits in northern Iowa.

By no means is this forecasted to be the biggest snowfall we have ever had, but it is the first time this season we are on track for multiple inches of snow.

We are expected to have our biggest snowfall event so far this Winter late Monday through early Tuesday. It is enough of a threat to garner an Alert Day.

Outside of a couple morning snow showers out by I-35, most of the snowfall holds until much later on Monday.

Both of these vary in snowfall totals depending on what state or county you live in, but they are the same in southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa.

The biggest factor for snowfall totals will be the how far north these snow bands will be able to track.

The peak of the activity will be late Monday through Tuesday morning. The heaviest of snowfall will stay to our south, where several states across the Great Plains have several counties under a Winter Storm Watch.

We still have some flurries in the forecast overnight. By sunrise on Sunday, most of our chances are wrapped up.

By the time the ball drops, roads should be in better shape, but you will still want to give yourself extra time on roadways.

By the evening of New Year's Eve, roads should be in better shape as trucks have time to scrape ice off the roads and snowfall is over.
