STRETCH GOAL #2 REVEAL
Not even a week into the campaign, and we've unlocked Stretch Goal #2: Boudica Bookwyrm's Lumbering Library. And we're already a quarter of the way to Stretch #3! Let's talk about them:
I am so excited that Boudica is moving forward. As with Ten Silvers, my brother Scott and I sat down to brainstorm this one. We quickly decided that we wanted a module that focused on adventure, wonder, and the fantastical elements of fantasy. Our inspirational touchstones were easy to pinpoint: The Legend of Zelda series, and the films of Studio Ghibli. The brainstorming chat is already on fire with incredible ideas for quests, characters, locations, and dangers. It's going to be a treat to work on!
Boudica is a wizened, affable older dragon who hoards knowledge, and has made it her purpose to run her unusual lair as a library that gathers and distributes books and scrolls wherever it finds itself. Problem is, it's prone to wandering right into trouble, so she doesn't leave it unattended—that's where the players come in.
This module centers around the eponymous library, a walking amalgamation that never stops wandering (wherever it pleases, regardless of Boudica's wishes). Characters join an eclectic cast of librarians, aides, and interns tasked with running errands, doing deeds, and hunting down late returns before the library wanders away and leaves them behind.
Structured as a series of smaller tasks that fit into the overall framework with no necessary order, this adventure module is great for all-ages and lighter-hearted campaigns, or just any group that enjoys having a pick-up-and-play adventure on hand when the opportunity to squeeze in a session presents itself.
But wait, there's more!
STRETCH GOAL #3: Trouble on the Mountain unlocks when the campaign hits $4k.
Boudica may be a breath of whimsical fresh air, but don't think that Ten Silvers Bent was the last dark cloud in these skies. We're already a quarter of the way toward unlocking Stretch Goal #3: Trouble on the Mountain.
TotM evolved from some of my earliest playtest Relict groups, and the events that unfolded around the poor, besieged village of Porter's Peak turned into a juicy Dawn of the Dead-style storyline in their own right. The dead are rising on the slopes of Mount Caldeen, and your heroes are the only thing preventing the trapped villagers in the region from joining them.
By day: race to gather isolated survivors, plan a defense, and delve into Caldeen's hidden past to uncover what brought this blight down upon you.
By night: barricade the doors and fend off ever-growing hordes with whatever supplies and able hands you've gathered. Those you save will help in different ways. Those you don't...well. You'll see them, too.
As the threat grows, grapple with the knowledge that a few lone adventurers might slip past the dead and get away through the wilderness...if they leave the townsfolk to join the dead.
