I often hear business owners ask if it’s okay to hire their friend, brother, or cousin to manager their social media.

And I think it is totally fine as long as you don’t have any social media related goals. 😬

A great social media manager will do a million little behind the scenes things that your inexperienced social media manger might not know how to do…

Here are some examples:

-know how to create a story that gets better reach.

-understanding how to gain page likes / followers from quality leads.

-knowledge of the importance of UGC.

-how often to post based on your niche.

And this is just the beginning. 😅

So if your debating about who should be managing your socials first consider whether results matter to you and then hire accordingly. 😊

Story time. Snuggle in. 📚

In 2017 I created a freelancing profile on a site called just to see what would happen.

I listed my skill set from my career as a school psychologist and within a month someone reached out to me about managing the social media for his education/tech startup.

I agreed and got to work scheduling articles and posts. I just did what he told me to do.

I was new and I wasn’t particularly good at it so most of the posts didn’t really get any likes or comments but the biz owner was happy because his followers and email list were growing.

Watching each post get one or two likes broke my heart so after our partnership ended I ran away from social media management terrified. I was not doing that again. 😝

But the universe had a different plan and from that point on nearly every opportunity that came my way related to social media. So I took what I knew about data analysis from my day job and decided to try and find ways to help businesses create posts that people would actually “like.”

Fast forward to 2021 and I only offer SMM because it is a blast! 🎉

Watching the comments roll in on a fun engagement post or having my clients tell me that they sold out of the product we shared is inspiring work.

Obviously this doesn’t happen every single time but every post does give us new information and data about our audience.

If the post doesn’t perform well we can look at the data and learn from it.

If our audience loved a recent post and maybe even stopped you at the store to tell you how awesome it was then we know to do more. of. that. 👏 👏 👏

Don’t spend your time living in fear of post performance. Use the data to improve your content and strategy and you’ll be 🏅.

When I landed my first social media manager gig, I was super overwhelmed.

I was terrified because I felt like my shortfalls would be visible for the whole world to see.

I was worried that my clients would see the posts and be unhappy with the number of likes they were getting so I avoided taking on new clients.

With my first client the posts didn’t perform super well or generate many leads.

I would take on other types of freelance work because I was scared to take on new social media clients.

So I stopped completely.

But about 2.5 years in the game I got an opportunity I couldn’t refuse.

And with time I finally started to figure this whole social media for business thing out.

It’s incredible to see how much my skills have changed. Instead of being sooo scared of results I’m now pumped to see how posts perform.

I appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of each new campaign we come up with.
I love meeting with my clients.
I enjoy caption writing.
I love graphic design.
I love being creative.

And the results these small businesses are getting. Holy buckets! 🤩

Now I can say, with my whole heart, I really enjoy social media management.

So much so, that I seek out new clients when I know deep in my heart that I can help a small business.

And now I have more passion and fun with this work than ever before.

When I was a little girl my aunt would make out of toothpicks and embroidery floss.
