Virginians reelected Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine for a third term. The state's junior Senator defeated Republican Hung Cao winning 54% of the vote.

On Tuesday night Kaine thanked a crowd of supporters at Richmond's Hippodrome and said, "we're going to have a lot of work to do" in order to create peace in the world, improve the economy, expand health care and protect reproductive freedoms.

Kaine also said Virginians had done their part by selecting Vice President Kamala Harris to be President, despite her loss in the final U.S. election results.

Virginians chose Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine for a third term, sending the avuncular Richmonder back to D.C.
