WRIR-LP 97.3 FM is a low power FM radio station broadcasting from Richmond, Va. We are a public radio station but in a different sense than most stations in the Southeast. WRIR is
(1) managed entirely by volunteers with the majority being women which is uncommon for the majority of media outlets,
(2) the programs airing on WRIR are produced in our studio by our volunteers who mentor one anothe
r to create an environment for learning and empowerment,
(3) the station, by charter, will always be locally-operated and beholden only to our listeners. As a result, WRIR is the most independent radio station on air in Richmond, VA.

Tune in to The Other Black Music radio show this Sunday April 2nd. 3 - 5pm eastern time.
April is National Volunteer Month. I wanted play music dedicated to volunteering. I only found one song that fit the show format but the featured instrument was auto tune. Anyway I'll try to give you a good show from your 100% volunteer run radio station. Got some new Funk from Marcus Malone & the Motor City Hustlers.
New Blues from Eric Bibb
New Ska from The Selecter. Also some cool older tunes.

If you missed Global A Go-Go on Sunday, you can listen to it here https://www.wrir.org/show/global-a-go-go/.
Here's what you missed: I'm making my first trip ever to the Big Ears Festival next weekend (Albert Green will sit in for me then) -- now I'm just trying to figure out how much left-of-center music I can cram into a four-day visit. They have an outstanding international lineup this year, and I'll preview that part of the festival this week on Global A Go-Go (originally aired Sunda,y March 26, 1:00-3:00 PM on WRIR, for two weeks afterward at wrir.org/listen, check your local listings for airing on other radio stations, and any old time at my podcast site).
Included will be a couple of tracks from Bogotá's who will go directly from Big Ears to Richmond and perform Monday, April 3 at with opening (more info here: thebroadberry.com/event/meridian-brothers-miramar/richmond-music-hall/richmond-virginia). I saw the Meridian Brothers in New York in January and they are a fabulous live act -- I don't know if I'll be back in time from Knoxville to catch this show, but you certainly should.
Also this week Global A Go-Go pays tribute to Simon Emmerson, the British musician, producer, and pioneer of world music, who passed away on March 13 at age 67. You'll hear from his Afro Celt Sound System and The Imagined Village projects, plus one of his amazing productions for Malian singer Baaba Maal
