In 1995, 2Pac began work on the infamous "All Eyez On Me" album. As reported by associates, Pac recorded "Ambitionz Az A Ridah", "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted" and "I Aint Mad At Cha" during his first studio session since being released from Clinton Correctional Facility.

After the historic recording session, Pac met up with Faith Evans and spent a nice relaxing night with her. 👀 Faith ran after 2Pac to his hotel room multiple times. She later claimed it was to ask for money owed to her for recording vocals on All Eyez On Me.

It was in this moment Faith learned about a 2Pac diss record against The Notorious B.I.G. Faith realized the sample Pac was going to use was Dennis Edward's "Don't Look Any Further." 2Pac would later go on to record the original "Hit Em Up" later that month in October 1995. This version remained unreleased and wasn't used for "All Eyez On Me."

When Faith went back to New York, she told Biggie that Pac was going to release a diss record over that sample so Biggie and Junior Mafia took the sample for the "Get Money Remix" which dropped a week and a half before "All Eyez On Me".

This incident would infuriate Pac to the point where he went back and had the beat reproduced by Johnny J and recorded all new lyrics over the beat with the Outlawz. And then he would flip the "Get Money" line into "Take Money" as a direct shot towards that record. Long story short, it was these actions that spawned the "Hit Em Up," we all know. If the Beat was never stolen, Pac would have left the 1995 version unreleased and would have never remade it in mid 1996.

The year was 1995. During the height of the media driven "East Coast/West Coast" Beef. The Notorious B.I.G. was on the rise with his debut album "Ready to die" storming up the charts. Big gets hired to promote a staple in the urban drinkie drink St. Ides. This commercial was one of the marketing gems to assist Biggie with catapulting to super stardom. Many of you know, this infamous beat was eventually used by Tha Dogg Pound and was released as "New York, New York" on September 17th, 1995. Shout out to DJ Pooh on the production! According to Kurupt, DJ Pooh gave Kurupt the beat first. Kurupt said he was taking his time with this beat because he knew it was going to be something special for him. While writing to it, St. Ides dropped this commercial with B.I.G. rapping over it. Biggie technically rapped over this iconic instrumental first even though it was given to Kurupt prior. This commercial features a shortened version of the verse. The original verse in it's entirety was about 49 seconds. "While Kurupt, Daz and Snoop would allege that the song was initially meant as a tribute to New York, during the filming of the music video in Red Hook, Brooklyn, the set was fired upon in a drive-by. As a result, the West Coast rappers decided to turn the song into a diss against the East Coast, filming themselves knocking down the city’s iconic skyscrapers." "This in turn lead to Capone-N-Noreaga collaborating with Mobb Deep and Tragedy Khadafi to release the response song “L.A., L.A.” The incident also prompted 2Pac, on behalf of his new Death Row family, to step up his involvement in the coastal beef.
