Rites of passage are a huge deal. In my personal definition, they are joyous occasions. Sure, I realize that there are negative rites of passage, but I like my definition better as I choose to focus on them as a positive. I understand that they are transitional, in essence an event that changes a person’s life, and they are B-I-G!

Eighteen days into the new year, and I finally gave in. It was a bleak, rainy day. I was in dire straits. Two of the four major food groups were missing in the Kaminski household. Not to appear to be a wimp, the state of missing essentials – two items that I absolutely must have in order to survive – had been out of stock for four days, and I just couldn’t take it any longer. I had suffered as long as I could. A girl can only take so much.

Growing up I was taught that it is better to give than to receive. And Mr. Kaminski and I, in turn, taught our children to be philanthropic – to share their time, talents and gifts with others. I remember when our babies were in pre-school, and they asked to have a Christmas party. Of course, we agreed, but we also told them that they needed to do something good with their idea. We explained that many children didn’t get gifts at Christmas, and we invited their friends to a party and to bring a toy for a child in need.

It’s still been hotter than the holidays and holy one should allow over the past week, but finally Mother Nature has had some pity on our holiday hum drums and has given us a dose of cooler temps to help make our spirits bright. That’s the good news. That bad news? That’s been only in the past 24 hours.

Cowboys, campfire and Christmas!! You do not want to miss this year’s Campfire Christmas at The George Ranch.

I know that the calendar says it’s December. I know that my Christmas tree is up, and I know that I’m making a list and checking it twice. But if I see one more tv commercial about making sure my heater is in good working order for the winter weather, I’m going to lose it. My AC is working overtime, I haven’t even turned on my fireplace and I’m ready to cut all of the sleeves off of my Christmas sweaters. It’s a Christmas vest for me. It’s ho, ho hotter than Hades this Christmas in Texas, and I am not here for it.

It happened again. First rattle out of the box on an early morning road trip Mr. Kaminski commenced to poking the bear. We have discussed this, he and I, my penchant for no shenanigans in the early am hours. I can get to where I need to be, but there should be no further expectations from me until a more appropriate and humane hour arrives. I’ve even defined the time. It’s always 9:30ish.
