I left Texas mid-November. It was a balmy 70 degrees as it tends to be in Texas during a cool spell. While I was headed West to a colder climate, I had no worries. After all, I had a coat there, along with sweaters, sweats and such. I was good.

Suddenly, unexpectedly on Christmas Eve, it happened. Mr. Kaminski had a revelation.

“Let’s go to Walmart,” he declared.

“Baby, it’s nearly 5 pm. I doubt Walmart is open,” I replied gently.

“Oh, they are. They are open until 6 pm. Let’s go!” he said excitedly.

For the love of the Lord, I had no idea why he wanted to do last-minute Christmas Eve shopping at all, much less at Walmart. Our halls were decked, our fridge was full, our gifts were procured and wrapped. We were beyond ready.

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the casa,
Not a soul was stirring, except, of course, for the Momma.
She had hung the stockings by the chimney with care,
Knowing that Santa soon would be there.
The halls were decked from head to toe,
Momma’s fait accompli before the big show.
Her people were nestled all snug in their beds,
Dreams of the morn’ dancing in their heads.

A collaboration between the Fort Bend Economic Development Council (FBEDC) and the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce (FBCC) has led to the formation of a new initiative, The Fort Bend Business Partnership (FBBP). The FBBP will unite members of the FBEDC and the FBCC’s Chairman’s Circle within the FBCC to strengthen connections and advance vital work that benefits Fort Bend County.
