Jamie Vaughn talks a lot about cancer. As a survivor of breast cancer who wanted to share more about her experience and provide resources to others going through similar experiences, she launched the podcast "Test Those Breasts" and a website with links to resources for those dealing with cancer.

On this episode of Renoites, Jamie sat down with Conor to share the story of her cancer journey, how it upended her retirement plans and put her on a different path, what she has learned from dozens and dozens of conversations with doctors, experts, and other cancer survivors, and much more.

Thank you so much to everyone who voted for Renoites as best local podcast for the Best of Northern Nevada 2024! It was great to see some of the other winners tonight at the award presentation, all of whom are all doing wonderful things in our community. I saw several former Renoites guests there too!

I’m so grateful to all the people who have been a part of the show, as listeners, guests, patrons (ESPECIALLY patrons- please consider it!), or those just offering a positive word about me and my work now and then. I see your likes!

🎙️ NEW EPISODE 🎙️

You’ve probably seen Greg Kidd’s big green campaign signs around town featuring his slogan “Free, Fair, Wild”

Kidd is running as a nonpartisan candidate for Nevada’s second congressional district, a seat currently held by Mark Amodei. This is the first time I know of that the Democrats have chosen not to run a candidate for this seat, meaning that we will have a Republican vs Nonpartisan contest. Interesting and different!

Greg joined me on Renoites this week to discuss his campaign, his experience in the realm of tech and banking, how Nevada can best leverage our expertise in gaming and our natural resources (lithium anyone?) for competitive advantage. Some of his other campaign priorities include defending reproductive rights and creating clearer regulations for things like crypto currency.

New episode out now! You may have seen Judi Rought out and about in her pink VW bug, or decked out in full Barbie at Northern Nevada Pride, or even briefly on the campaign trail as a candidate for Reno mayor. Now, you can know her from a series of classes she is teaching (along with other volunteers) at Our Center, Reno’s LGBTQ+ community center on Wells Avenue. The classes are intended to teach important basic life skills that we may have missed learning for one reason or another. This month it’s basic automobile maintenance, other classes include tax preparation, health insurance, and resume writing. It’s open to everyone so if you ever have one of those “hey why didn’t I learn this in school” moments, come do some learning! This month’s class is basic car maintenance!
