The new record from the scattering (all lowercase because they are nerds) is out next Friday, and I’m here to tell you that “Now We All Burn” is everything I was expecting and plenty more besides. It’s a very in-your-face production with churning guitars to the fore, totally in line with their wild-ass live shows. But, it doesn’t detract from the band’s deft use of changing rhythmic styles that mix and match all sorts of punk and metal influences.
It’s a mega-intense, mostly lightning-fast record, but there are plenty of surprises with how they employ the slower passages - it’s done cliche-free and that was really refreshing in a growing sea of breakdown-by-numbers hardcore these days. It all speaks to how the scattering are in their own lane, as they do a now rare thing of respecting past gains but also sounding up-to-date with what fans of that style want these days. And, the scattering does this with its own personality and distinctive message intact. Go get it next week! It’s on Bandcamp and will be streaming and for purchase at all the usual places.
