Novak Djokovic on his loss to Machac, he says he’s worried and he hasn’t played well this year, ‘I don’t see myself as a favorite at Roland Garros’

“Of course I'm worried. I haven't played well at all this year, apart from a few matches here and there. Things are what they are. I don't see myself as a favorite in Paris. I will try to take the matches one after the other. I didn't have a great night, and today was tough. I had horrible feelings during the first part of the match. I don't want to take any credit away from Tomas (Machac), who deserved his victory, but I don't know what to think of this match. I prefer to forget it. I don't know how I was able to win the second set either. I was hoping to play more than one match when I came here, and I played three. But I wish I could feel better. It's not nice to suffer like that on the court. It's hard to concentrate on tennis when you have other things on your mind. I just hope to be ready and in good health for Roland-Garros.”

Nice to know that Carlos Alcaraz has finally realised and recognized who Novak Djokovic is. It is better to be late than never !

But, this is the problem with Carlos. He still thinks that only Djokovic is there to challenge him on his way up. Is he going into every practice session and every tennis match from here too, with the mind of chasing him and replacing Djokovic from the No.1 position next year ?

He must know that his current No.2 ATP ranking itself is under threat from Daniil Medvedev in a week’s time. This could happen if Daniil wins all his remaining matches and the title in Turin and Carlos fails to make the semi finals.

A real possibility, isn’t it ? He will then have to chase Daniil first, to reclaim his No.2 ranking next year. After that, he could perhaps think of replacing Novak at the No.1 position.

Carlos should come down to earth.! There are many other players than Djokovic in the Top 20 who can beat him now. It was proven during the last few months. He should always remember that.

Would someone in his team advise him to talk less (even if he has any such thoughts or goals in his mind) and work hard ? It will be good for him🙏
