Father came up for mass today even though it has been raining for two days. Ruth and Leo had to help push the vehicle up the muddy roads so father could make it home for another mass. Look at their faces. So much joy!!!

The mission goes on. Feeding the children never ends. it is such an important part of their days. The parents come on Sundays for church and catechism classes. We have had some funky weather but thankfully we haven't had too many repairs.

We are still need of monthly donors to sponsor lunch. It is really important to feed these children. They do not receive lunch at school and they have to walk home in the heat of the day over the mountain two hours. For many of the children this is the only meal that they receive during the day. The children are allowed to have seconds and thirds. We do not turn away a hungry child. We receive rice and beans from the state but we need to purchase the other items to ensure they have a well balanced meal since many of the children are malnourished.

What a busy week! We feed 52 children daily. We also work hard tending to the farm. The food we grow goes to feed the 52 children and also children in five other soup kitchens.

We had a youth retreat this weekend! The youth group from Caspizapa came up to have an experience in the mission. We travelled to Alto Andino. This is one of the communities of Cuñumbuque. It was a beautiful weekend!

We feed fifty-two children daily in our program. We also feed a few elderly. This program has had a huge impact on the children. After lunch we tutor the children. Many are behind in reading, writing and math.

We were blessed to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary with Bishop Rafael Escudero López-Brea! It was a beautiful mass followed by lunch and some fun activities.

Mary’s Little Champions lunch and after school program is very blessed. Today we talked about why we need trees and why we should stop cutting them all down. We also talked about the sacraments and we practiced English with the song “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus.” We sing this song at church which will help the children understand the English words better. I have been using this technique for ten years. It was really cool to hear Jhordan share with the children that he learned it this way. He started singing it quietly. What a witness! Boy do we love having the boys with us again!
Ruth is teaching a sewing class for the girls. Yesterday they made their pin cushions. Today they are started to learn techniques to make doll clothes.

The life of a missionary is often unplanned. There are many times we get to the end of the day and we are excited to just rest but then there is a knock on our door because of an emergency.

We are the only means for help in these circumstances. The people we serve do not have access to medical care and almost all of them do not have transportation. That is what brings them to our door. So often they feel unseen and uncared for.

We are often left exhausted by the time we return home but thankful for the opportunity to show love when they need it the most.

We were blessed to host a retreat with a great group of teachers during their vacation. God is so good! They enjoyed the peace and quiet. They also loved meeting all of the animals and trying to milk the cow. We pray God continues to bless their work!

We are so blessed to have these two boys in our house again. We met them ten years ago when we first moved to Peru. They helped us learn Spanish and we helped them with their English classes. They became our sons and lived at our house whenever they had free time.

They decided to come and volunteer at our center during their vacation. How cool is that? It is so amazing to have them with us again. It doesn’t feel like much has changed other than everyone is much much taller now. So blessed to see the fruits of our labor!

Many people have asked what our kids do. How can they be members of your mission? What can they actually do?

I can assure you that our children are active missionaries. They are just not dragged along to events.

Tonight we had to lead a funeral for a young man who died in an accident. We have known the family for many years. The kids and I walked to the town and visited with the family. Our daughter, Ruth, crotcheted a small Mary doll today to give to the young man’s mom. It fit perfectly I. Her hand. Some of the other children had picked flowers along the way to give her. As soon as they saw her they gave her hugs. We all sang the Divine Mercy Chaplet together for his soul. A little while later our children played games with the grieving family’s children. They brought some joy to them in during a hard time. When I led the prayer service our children helped other children fold their hands. After the prayers our children jumped in to serve the meal to everyone who came tonight.

They were with me last night at the first night of the funeral. They helped me pray the rosary. Tomorrow they will be with me as we pray with the family for God to give them strength.

So yes, I believe 100% that our children are missionaries. Their witness is amazing.

What a busy week that started with a downed tree. Monday morning we found a tree had fallen during the wind storm Sunday afternoon. The large tree fell right on the place where we process the coffee crushing the roof and the machines. Thankfully it happened when no one was around! We have been cutting up the tree all week and we are almost finished. Hopefully by midweek it will be finished.

We had vet check. All the animals are doing great! Our kids love riding the animals even without saddles.

How do you break a cowboy boot in this way? I have never seen that before! Now we need to find a cobbler who can repair them in Peru. That might be challenging!

Coffee harvest is ongoing. Red beans are ready to be picked. Here’s to a good harvest!

Mary’s Little Champions is going great! We have a great group of kids who come daily. Our numbers are increasing! We have had no leftovers for the last three days.

We celebrated all of the May birthdays yesterday with a little party after lunch. It was a special treat for everyone. We even had our very own clown!
