If you haven’t seen them yet, however compact you think the new is, I guarantee it’s smaller. The NAMM show floor isn’t exactly the best critical listening environment, but I left the booth thoroughly impressed with these things, and doubly so at their size and price point. They can’t quite hit the speed and agility of the MicroMains in the low end obviously, but they sound very familiar to me throughout their working range, and they’ve got me thinking about a pair for my office! Absolutely worth a look for smaller rooms working in rock or other less subby genres, or I expect for just about anything you want if you pair them with a decent sub.

Had to relocate the control room due to some upcoming construction, and it’s been weeks of various things being in and out of commission as things get brought in. Now that the JH24 is in, I’m finally done, and my spine is still mostly functional!

Back in Pro Tools for at least a little while… For every one thing I remember I love, I remember two more that I hate. Has everybody who’s not bought into an ecosystem of some sort decided where we’re all going after this? Can we all just agree on Studio One so I can mostly just get to work, and focus my remaining complaint energy on the fact that their UI seems to insist on changing random things while I’m trying to scroll one of their stupid micro-UIs because EVERYTHING LISTENS TO MOUSE WHEEL? Also sorry Logic fans, I can’t abide its insistence on turning mono strips into implicit stereo ones at the drop of a hat - it’s cost me too many hours teaching musicians how to bounce tracks for the mix, and often enough failing, giving up, and then banging my head on the desk while figuring out what’s actually mono, what should be mono but isn’t, and what’s actually stereo.

Much love to Chris and the rest of the crew for pushing these lovely old MCI machines into the future with new ideas and options. Their AL-II/III desktop is exactly what I wanted to both save space and keep my transport as conveniently located as possible - love being able to pop it up on my desk quickly! SUPER DUPER HAPPY to have this beautiful JH24 in the studio - it’s in amazing shape, and sounds killer after a calibration pass! We’re setup to use it for tape transfers, as a pre-process for digital tracks for client mixes, or for full tracking sessions to tape - hit me up if you’re in the Bay Area and want some especially analog vibes for your next project!

New mixdown deck is in the house! This Studer reVox PR99 Mk. III is in great shape, and sounds just as nice! These weren’t the cleanest decks - they were broadcast staples, not studio mastering decks - but we’ve all got more “perfect” than we know what to do with these days, so a little bit wrong might just be a little bit right! 😅

Perfect for projects that want a bit of that vintage charm and sense of movement that a well-calibrated machine can provide. Still waiting on a rack to arrive, but she’s already putting in work! 🎶

Tracking day... Have I mentioned lately how much I love tracking in the @uaudio #lunarecordingsystem? Because I really do love tracking in Luna. Also a big shoutout to the @warmaudio Foxy Tone Box!

Currently working on my first project done entirely in #uadluna from start to finish, now that it supports analog summing! Still some kinks to work out, but the combination of Luna’s excellent tape modeling and the Neve summing extension feeding into my analog outboard workflow (including the wonderful @rupert_neve 5059) is truly special sounding! Can’t wait until I can move to Luna for everything, @uaudio is killing it! 🎶❤️🤘
