Congratulations Aperture Press Author Arve Robert Pisani on the publication of your new book.

On June 6, 1944, Allied forces launched the greatest invasion in history against Nazi-occupied Europe. More than 150,000 troops landed on the coast of France as part of Operation Overlord, and for seven weeks they fought inland across fifteen miles of le bocage—the deadly maze of hedgerows, fields, and woodlands that comprises the Norman countryside. On July 25, they finally broke Germany’s defensive line with a decisive strike at Saint-Lô.

Bocage tells the story of the Normandy campaign from the point of view of the men who experienced it. Arve Robert Pisani spent years researching and collecting first-hand accounts from more than three hundred World War II veterans on both sides of the conflict. Through interviews, telephone conversations, personal correspondence, and primary documents he crafted an intimate narrative of their time in Normandy. Many of these stories, both unique and familiar, have never before been told. The account is enhanced by extensive research of primary sources—including after action reports, combat interviews, small unit studies, and unpublished documents—to add strategic depth and historical analysis. The result is an uncompromising account of the summer of 1944.

5 Star review for Deborah Stevenson's Oy, Elephants!

Reviewed by Joel R. Dennstedt for Readers' Favorite — 5 Stars

There is so much to like about Oy, Elephants! by Deborah Stevenson and Morgan Spicer. Begin with the book’s concept. A pair of retired circus elephants, Martha and Lou, move in as next-door neighbors to young Joel’s grandparents, Morris and Gussie, with whom he is staying on vacation at the Del Ray Retirement Village (in Florida, of course.) That no one questions (much) the arrival of two pachyderms as new members provides the main ingredient of this story’s overwhelming charm. Ms. Stevenson tells the story of Joel’s poolside adventures with over-sized companions as an exquisite understatement sure to spark any child’s imagination. Children accept the impossible. But the marvelous illustrations of Ms. Spicer bring this unlikely tale vividly to life, providing the authenticity the story calls for with drama, humor, and boundless energy.

Oy, Elephants! presents a great collaboration between Deborah Stevenson and Morgan Spicer, who know perfectly well how to instill their heartwarming message - so important to the young - in the guise of old folks living lives of earned release and conditioned ways, even if two of those old folks happen to be elephants. Because of their time in the circus, Martha and Lou offer youthful fun and immediate help to their new neighbors, and the most memorable vacation Joel has yet experienced. Lest one misinterpret, however, the creators of this book take time (in their preface) to explain why elephants should not be entertainers, and (in an afterword) why elephants are such genuinely marvelous creatures. A portion of the proceeds from this delightful book go the World Wildlife Fund, making this special book wonderfully complete.

CONGRATULATIONS Deb Stevenson on the release of your new book for children, Oy, Elephants!

There’s big fun to be had at Delray Retirement Village!

Joel is a bit uncertain when he travels to visit his grandparents in Delray Beach, Florida. He is excited to see them, but afraid he might be bored at their quiet retirement village. Imagine his surprise when he meets his grandparents’ new neighbors—a pair of retired circus elephants who just moved in. They require lots of sunscreen, they’re too big for the furniture, and they turn the community pool into a water park!

It looks like Joel might end up having an adventure, after all!

The latest issue of the International Cultic Studies Magazine, "ISCA Today," features several notable contributions by Joseph Szimhart, author of "Mushroom Satori." His painting "Trust" appears as the magazine’s cover art and an article penned by Szimhart, titled “Retribing the Planet: Shamanism Repurposed for Modern Times,” begins on page 10. Later, a dozen of his paintings are the focus of an art feature. His fans will no doubt recognize familiar works such as "Phoenix Rising" and "What Mouse Said," but several newer paintings appear, as well.

To read his article and see his art, have a look at Volume 8, Number 2 of "ISCA Today" at http://www.icsahome.com/memberelibrary/it.

Recently author Donna Paff and illustrator Bella Viva were invited to visit the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum in Key West, Florida for a special tour and to sign copies of their book, "A Visit From Miss Marvin." The delightful children’s book, whose titular character is a polydactyl “Hemingway” cat, has been a popular item at the museum store for some time now. Museum staff thought it would be fun to host an event for Miss Marvin, so they extended an invitation to Donna and Bella. On May 9 the pair were warmly received at the Hemingway Home, and they spent the day meeting visitors and fans, signing books, and making new friends young and old.

Congrats to Donna and Bella for this wonderful opportunity!

"A Visit From Miss Marvin" is the story of a charming cat and her elderly companion, Mr. Smith. The two friends stick together through thick and thin, and always make the best of life’s changes. (http://www.aperturepress.net/books/a-visit-from-miss-marvin)

The Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum is the legendary writer’s former estate in Key West, Florida. It is home to several dozen polydactyl cats, some of whom are descendents of Hemingway’s own pet cat. (http://www.hemingwayhome.com)
