🖤 In Memory of Walter O’Rourke 🖤

The people you meet at The Chip can change the course of your life. We ride together, party together, laugh together and cry together.

Today, our hearts are heavy as we remember and mourn the loss of our dear Buffalo Chip family member, Walter “JD” O'Rourke.

For the past decade, Walter has played a role in helping to create this place so many of us call home, from throwing ice as a barback and placing the flags at our annual Flag Raising Ceremony, to chugging beers in our promo videos and creating hilarious spectacles in our photo shoots. He was also the guy you could count on to show up and support every single event, come hell or high water.

Walter wasn't just a devoted Buffalo Chip fan and employee. His infectious smile and off-the-wall enthusiasm were constants, whether at work or play. Walter had a remarkable gift for making connections with everyone he encountered and never ran out of space for a new friend. He always took the time to introduce himself to newcomers, spreading the warmth of the Buffalo Chip family from the very start.

His love for the Buffalo Chip was etched not only in his dedication but also in a permanent tribute—a tattoo of the Chip’s buffalo skull just above his heart. Today, as we bid farewell to Walter in the physical sense, let us remember that he lives on in the imprints he left on each one of us.

If you knew him and were one of the many whose lives he touched, please join this Saturday, December 16 at 10 a.m. for his funeral service at the Buffalo Chip’s Big Engine Bar. After the service, we will transport Walter via motorcycle hearse to the funeral home. Anyone who knew Walter and rides a motorcycle is welcome to join the motorcycle procession to and from the funeral home. After the procession, please return to the Big Engine Bar for a celebration of Walter’s life.

Let’s stand together, supporting one another through this and the other challenges life may bring.

What I enjoyed most about this retreat was the fact that I was able to spend time with other people who were going through the grieving process after losing someone to su***de. They had game nights, puzzles, singing, arts, movies, hiking, yoga, massages, and more. I wasn’t expected to attend every event; it was there if I needed it. I could stay in my room and take a bubble bath if I chose. It was a place to take a break. Did I cry with others? Yes. Did I laugh with others? Yes. Did I meet people that I now consider family? Yes. Please, if you have lost a friend, family member, or anyone to su***de, join us. Give yourself a break and hang out with some great people whom you will find something in common with. It doesn’t matter if it happened 20 years ago or just last week. This is a place for you. Share your story there if you want, or don’t.
