They say never meet your heroes... I'm here to tell you that is not true. I've been so fortunate to not only meet my heroes, but to have had them in my life as mentors, learn from them, spending years performing and learning the ropes with them on the road, and assimilate them into my Family... and I into theirs. One of my heroes and musical 'Guitar Dad' was Joe Pass. It is his Birthday today, he would have been 95. He took pity on a young fledgling guitarist and took up where Herb Ellis left off, and taught me what it meant to be a Jazz musician. I miss him everyday, and think of him every time I pick up my guitar. I've been watching a lot of videos on Joe lately... mostly guitarists trying to tell others 'how to play' like Joe. They know what he is doing... they just don't know why. I've decided to start a series of lessons to help guitarists understand 'why' we choose the notes, chords and harmonies that define us. Check back... until then... Happy Birthday Giuseppe Passalaqua.
