In my interview with Joe Illidge, we briefly touched on ANIA, an association of Black comic book publishers founded at roughly the same time as Milestone Media in the early 90s.

Unlike Milestone, ANIA wasn’t a single creative endeavor. Rather, it was a group of publishers participating in cooperative economics to help each of their characters reach a larger audience. (Think of it like early Image Comics, in which each member had their own studio and owned their individual characters).

There isn’t much documented about why ANIA only published a handful of issues. But this feature in NBC New York’s ‘Positively Black’ is probably the best look at the ideas and attitudes of ANIA’s founders. It was posted to YouTube by ANIA co-founder Roosevelt Pitt Jr, creator of the superhero PURGE.

Looks like I'm getting a new LCS soon!

Hey all you comic fans,

We wanted to share some exciting news with you! After much consideration and discussion, we have decided to end our partnership with Ultimate Comics on positive terms. We would like to take a moment to thank Alan, Siena and their amazing staff for the years of cooperation. We look forward to our new opportunities and adventures in the world of comics!

We hope you’ll be staying with us as we rebrand to Fight or Flight Comics. In the coming weeks we will be transitioning stock as we move to our new location at Triangle Town Center Mall (5959 Triangle Town Blvd, suite 1097-B) in Raleigh.

The date of the new shop’s opening is not yet set in stone, though we are aiming for the end of August! We will send out a notification and party invitations when it happens! Until then, it is business as normal at our current location.
