Moving into our narrative short films, today we have Flag Act and Lost on the Beach!

The porch-side conflict escalates beyond annoyance to absurdity, with Simone’s sass remaining intact to the end.

Happy Birthday to Eno River Media

Twenty-four years ago, Eno River Media was started. From a core group of six volunteers producing Insight Durham at the Durham’s Public Access Station run by Time Warner, we grew to over 140 volunteers strong and have had as many as three half hour monthly television programs running on as many as twelve public access stations up and down the Eastern Seaboard in our heyday – around 2004. That equals to a little over 2 million viewers a year! Then, wanting to broaden their horizons, our Directors asked to make short movies. So we did; and now they win national awards! Years later the number of completed movies is over 15 with more than 5 TV specials. And then we pivoted. In 2010, the Board of Directors left production in the hands of the many talented crew that were our volunteers and reduced our numbers to around 20 to focus on advocating for the growth of the movie and television industry of North Carolina. In 2014, Eno River Media was the instrumental advocating voice for creation of a grant program to avoid losing any incentive all together. The next few years we led the chorus to increase the grant from 10 million dollars to 30 million dollars. And this year we are suggesting even more modification to help the small businesses in our industry in NC. All this was accomplished with volunteers.

I constantly talk about the quality and brilliance of our volunteers. They come from every walk of life and age range. We are blessed to have such a wide variety and depth of knowledge available to us. With all these volunteers striving for success for Eno River Media, we cannot fail.

Our growth has been characterized as illustrious. I was a bit concerned that that word overstated our true nature. Then I looked it up:

Main Entry: il·lus·tri·ous
Pronunciation: \i-ˈləs-trē-əs\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin illustris, probably from illustrare
Date: 1588

1: notably or brilliantly outstanding because of dignity or achievements or actions : eminent
2: archaic
a: shining brightly with light
b: clearly evident

Obviously, a word that is 429 years old suits us just fine!!!!

Our actions and achievements perfectly reflect our volunteer spirit!

Happy Birthday to all of us who volunteers with Eno River Media – past or present - and thank you!!!

Let us celebrate for a year!!

For the Senior Staff and Board of Directors;
Anthony Dowling
Executive Director

A Message from the Center for Documentary Studies on the 2023 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival

The Center for Documentary Studies (CDS) will pause its annual Full Frame Documentary Film Festival for the 2023 season as the organization continues a strategic planning process around the Center’s next chapter led by Executive Director Opeyemi Olukemi with unanimous support from the CDS Board of Directors. Full Frame was held entirely online for the 2020–22 festivals due to COVID-19. Plans are to return to an in-person event in 2024.

“We recognize that this may be disappointing news to our fans and community, but this strategic planning phase presents a natural time and opportunity for us to pause programs, including Full Frame, while we create a new vision for the organization that expands our leadership and role in amplifying the power of documentary art,” said CDS Executive Director Opeyemi Olukemi.

“We are building on a rich legacy as we reimagine and elevate CDS and its programs to operate with the greatest impact. This time will allow us to strengthen the business operations of the organization to ensure longevity and sustainability in the long-term."

The Center was founded in 1989 as a nonprofit affiliate of Duke University dedicated to the evolving practice of the documentary arts across all forms and mediums and to supporting documentary artists, with an emphasis on their roles in contributing to society. The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival is a program of the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University.

About the North Carolina Film Festival

Sitting comfortably at the confluence of the Neuse and Trent rivers, New Bern is home to the North Carolina Film Festival which was founded in 2006. Conceived to foster the economic and cultural development of the film and television industry of North Carolina through an annual celebration of film, music and culture, the Festival’s mission is to showcase an array of talented filmmakers and their movies from across the nation. Features, shorts, and music videos are welcome at the North Carolina Film Festival, bringing in the widest array of artists from different disciplines.

The North Carolina Film Festival draws motion pictures and talent from around the world to North Carolina, one of the top movie and television producers in the United States. Eventually the festival will broadcast, over the web, programming to independent theaters and venues across the state, with the goal of becoming the premiere film festival on the East Coast.

The North Carolina Film Festival shares its continued growth with its extraordinary filmmakers, and thanks them for their participation with the Festival.
