Hello all. My name’s Joshua Pogue, and I wanted to share the origin story to how my passion for creating engaging and fun stories came to the creation of County Road Film Company.
Back when I was in high school, my friends and I were big into stunt shows featuring Johnny Knoxville and Bam Margera, and goofy British comedies like Monty Python. We decided to emulate those and made dozens of videos on our families camcorders. Several years went by, and I decided that I wanted to continue in this creative field, and I ended up enrolling at Full Sail University in Orlando Florida and 20 months later I received a Bachelor of Science in Film.
Initially I was dreaming of working on TV shows and movies all the time, with the ultimate goal being something like the show Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, because I enjoyed traveling, learning about new cultures and people, and I really enjoy food. My lack of self confidence led me to sabotaging my dreams at the time, so I came back to my hometown and lived with my parents for a few years.
I ended up finding some business with the video and photo services, so I started a DBA as County Road Film Company in August of 2012. At the time this wasn’t bringing in much business, so I ended up getting a job at Lowe’s in Lindale for awhile, stocking shelves at 4am 5 days a week, and also ended up finding work as a wedding videographer with Complete Events in Tyler. After about 8 months of both of these, the hours clashed, and I had to make a decision of which to stick with. Follow my dreams and make things happen with the video and photo life enough to support myself or keep the “secure” job with something I wasn’t all that passionate about but knew I could keep if I stuck with it. I ended up following my passions and struck out into unknown, scary territory and haven’t looked back since.
