Lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, backing singer Cassie Gaines (Steve’s older sister), and the band’s assistant road manager, Dean Kilpatrick were killed in the crash. The accident took place just 3 days after the release of the group’s 5th studio album, Street Survivors.
