"Dear Ms. Vaughan:
I'm an old man at 93. As I use up my remaining years on earth, I write hundreds of letters about my causes and passions. Every day I browse the HuffPost for news, and spend too much time on the Internet. Yesterday I saw your story in the HuffPost on the dismissal of the misogynist Judge Robert Adrian for his Du***ss ruling on your ra**st from several years ago. I must admit I just sat and smiled as I read the report of your courageous decision to break your anonymity and lead to his judicial end.
I was born to a U.S. Midwest farm culture, Notre Dame/Stanford education, Korean War vet, tested atom bombs, flew USAF, worked 37 years in high tech, political ju**ie. I'm married to the same woman 60 years, 3 happy senior-age kids, and have seen a LOT of the human condition. I have lived here in the San Francisco Bay Area for 66 years. My wife, bless her heart, died in 2016 after 20 years in a wheelchair due to a brain tumor. I was her caregiver, so now I have LOTS of time on my hands, leading to letters like this.
I have two daughters who are now at their retirement age. They both married wonderful men, although I must admit that my wife and I worried all the way through their high school teen and college years, and various romances, until married and settled. I have no doubt that your life will also be filled with satisfaction and enjoyment, and now gratification that a mindless Judge
has paid for his thoughtlessness.
In my long lifetime I have compiled a long list of life heroes, starting with my teen years, Roosevelt and Churchill, George Patton and the WWII Codebreakers of Bletchley Park. Caty Stanton and Susan B Anthony of women suffrage, Crick and Watson of genome discovery, Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinam of women's rights, Collins and Venter of genome sequencing.
My lists also includes dozens of other common-day heroes, and for many of these I send my humble 10 AttaBoys/Ladys certificate. A Nobel it is not, so I call it my Noble Prize. I award it to people whose life stories charm me. One list includes a number of women in the Movement, another, the young Stanford student who was r**ed by Brock Turner and saw Judge Persky return a 6 month sentence. That Judge thankfully was recalled.
I awarded a number of Nobles to various women associated with the Movement who sensitized the nation into awareness of how wealthy ra**sts eluded punishment, and cast the victims as non-believable.
Your own ordeal, and your courageous decision to reveal your identity surely qualifies for a Noble. You have made a significant statement to the young women's demographic in the nation, that their rights must be protected and abusers punished.
I wish for you a wonderful life ahead, with great satisfaction from whatever journey you choose; college, work, friends, and that the only remembrance in your memory is that Justice came to the Du***ss Judge who failed accountability for your ra**st. And that you and your extended family will be safe in this continuing pandemic.
Sincerely,
John Minck"
