WSU Voice & Opera/Musical Theatre If you visit the WSU campus, please feel free to stop by one of our rehearsals. The class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:10 – 5:00 p.m.

The WSU Opera Workshop presents performances of opera and musical theatre, providing singers and actors with the opportunity to perform exciting repertoire while developing singing, acting and stage movement skills. After auditions, those singers whose voices are developed enough to perform in the production will be cast in scenes or full roles, according to their individual abilities. in Kimbroug

Bravo to the singers and pianists who represented WSU this weekend at the Inland Northwest Chapter of National Association of Teachers of Singing auditions at University of Idaho! Merry Marriage? That is the theme for this fall’s opera production, including scenes from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow. The cast of characters find themselves involved in a variety of marital situations that put into question the “merry” state. The ensemble is directed by Dr. Julie Anne Wieck, supported by collaborative pianist, Elena Panchenko and MaKenna Wagnon, teaching graduate assistant.

Tonight in Bryan Hall Theatre, 7:30 PM!

Please join the WSU vocal ensembles for their annual Vocal Extravaganza! This year’s concert will take place on Friday October 18th at 7:30 pm in WSU-Pullman’s Bryan Hall Theatre. The event is open and free for all.

The concert will open with scenes from our Opera/Musical Theatre ensemble. Merry Marriage? That is the theme for this fall’s opera production, including scenes from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow. The cast of characters find themselves involved in a variety of marital situations that put into question the “merry” state. The ensemble is directed by Dr. Julie Anne Wieck, supported by collaborative pianist, Elena Panchenko and MaKenna Wagnon, teaching graduate assistant.

Our concert will continue with performances by the choral ensembles at WSU. These include the University Singers and Treble Choir, conducted by Matthew Myers, and the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, conducted by Dean Luethi. The theme for this fall’s choral performances is “elements.” Performances will include works by Elaine Hagenberg, Darius Lim, Reena Esmail, Andris Sējāns, Hugo Wolf, Alberto Grau, Thomas Morley, John Conahan, and others.

Admission is free.

Cougar Summer Music Camp has been a blast this week! The musical theatre students have prepared several scenes from The Addams Family and are ready to share their performance at the final concert tomorrow, Saturday at 10:00 a.m. on Bryan Hall Theatre stage. Also performing will be the choir, orchestra, band and two jazz bands. The piano students will be performing in Kimbrough Concert Hall at 9:00 a.m. Free admission. Come and support over 100 young musicians as they wrap up a week packed with music making and fun!

The deadline to register for the 2024 Cougar Summer Music Camp is JUNE 1!

Cougar Summer Camp offers an exciting week of music making in various settings. It is open to incoming 8th graders to graduating high schoolers. All levels of playing are welcome.

Students will be placed in up to two ensembles. All students will play in band or sing in choir as their primary ensemble. Secondary ensemble may include band, choir, jazz band or musical theatre.

The WSU School of Music has also brought back strings and orchestra for 2024's camp due to it's popularity with campers when last included!

All students will also take at least two electives per day, including courses like conducting, film music, double reed making, African drumming and more
