Our Story

Cluny Media is a Rhode Island-based publishing house dedicated to promoting the Catholic tradition and supporting evangelization initiatives with great books that speak of truth, goodness, and beauty.

Our Name. Cluny takes its name from the Benedictine monastery of Cluny, founded in 910 in Saône-et-Loire, France. The Cluny apostolate included the establishment of libraries and scriptoria for the acquisition, preservation, transcription, and illumination of books. For more than two centuries, Cluny acquired and produced hundreds of manuscripts, making its library one of the richest in Europe.

Our Work. Primarily, our books are republications of important works in danger of becoming or are neglected or lost. We also publish new works that develop fresh insights and applications in continuity with the deep and vigorous conversations of the tradition. We publish books by canonized saints, renowned scholars, and decorated poets, as well as books by authors whose names and legacies have faded despite the preeminent value of their work. As a result, there is no Cluny book not worth reading. We promise.

Our Goal. Cluny is a response to a fundamental human need: the preservation of memory. To that end, our goal is twofold. First, to strengthen the understanding and faith of all interested in the Church and the intellectual and cultural riches it has fostered; second, to help in healing what Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI has called a “civilization of forgetfulness.”
