New blog post!

Today I watched him run up the crab apple and plum trees in the front yard. Nothing left of them but their skeletons. He still climbs them, I assume, looking for any last bits of the late summer fruit. You would think he would know by now it's a futile endeavor. Even the deer know and don't come thr...

I’m now 28 weeks and officially in the third trimester of pregnancy so I thought it was time for a fresh introduction!

My name is Annie, I’m 39 and I live on the Priest River in the far north of Idaho with my husband Luke and my 14 year old son Daniel. I love Jesus, my family, the mountains and a perfectly seasoned cast iron skillet.

I was born in the Bay Area of Northern California and grew up in a little harbor town on the Puget Sound of Western Washington in the shadow of Mt. Rainier. I have the sea air in my lungs and the mountains in my soul.

This page is dedicated to homemaking and lots and lots of baking!

I’m expecting a sweet little one this coming March. This was a completely unexpected but very welcome surprise! There will be nearly 15 years between this baby and my last. I’m so excited to be in the second trimester as we head into the holidays. My energy is returning and I can’t wait for all the holiday cooking and baking.

I have a blog that is linked in my bio with all of my recipes and I will keep adding more as I develop them.

Thanks for following along!

Here’s the recipe for my molasses cookies! It’s basically turned into a tradition for these to be the first Christmas cookie I bake during the holidays. I’ve perfected this recipe over the years to make molasses cookies exactly the way I like them, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Save this post for your Christmas cookie baking!

Today I made my Festive Death by Chocolate Cookies. I’ve spent nearly two decades tweaking the recipe to make them exactly the way I like them. They can be adapted for any holiday or season.

I have been baking these cookies close to two decades now. I have tweaked the recipe over the years to make them exactly the way I like them. You can adapt them for any holiday or season by changing the M&M's to colors inspired by the season. At Christmas time you can also switch out the vanilla ext...

My husband and I spent the weekend in Montana and visited Glacier National Park on the last day Going-to-the-Sun-Road was open. On our way home this morning we got coffee and breakfast at in Columbia Falls. I had to get this sweet little pumpkin spice donut cake to go. I had never heard of donut cake before and it was a fun, unique, yummy little fall treat.

My name is Annie and I live on the Priest River in the far north of Idaho with my husband Luke and my 14 year old son Daniel. I love Jesus, my family, the mountains and a perfectly seasoned cast iron skillet.

I’m expecting a sweet little one this coming March. This was a completely unexpected but very welcome surprise! There will be nearly 15 years between this baby and my last. The first trimester has been tough with nearly 24/7 morning sickness but I am now solidly in the second trimester and I am slowly but surely feeling the first trimester fog lift. I’m not 100% and some days are still rough but thankfully there are good days mixed in now. My sweet husband took over the majority of the cooking these past few months but I am FINALLY feeling up to doing more cooking and baking and working on new recipes. I think the transition into fall and cooler temps has helped a lot.

New blog post about my ultrasound on Friday!

Luke and I had a couple hours to kill in Couer D'Alene between a morning appointment and the ultrasound. Since we live an hour and fifteen minutes north of there going home in between wasn't an option or very practical. We ran a couple errands but still had a little time to wait. I was feeling nervo...

New blog post!

I’m not one to ever wish that the end of summer would come quickly but with nearly 24/7 morning sickness the August heat is not helping the nausea. I figure since tomorrow is my birthday and there are so many new faces it’s time for a fresh introduction!

My name is Annie and I live on the Priest River in the far north of Idaho with my husband Luke and my 14 year old son Daniel. I love Jesus, my family, the mountains and a perfectly seasoned cast iron skillet.

I recently found out I’m expecting a little one in March of 2024. This was completely unexpected and while we are still recovering from the shock and surprise we are also absolutely thrilled and scrambling to prepare for all the changes that are coming. There will be nearly 15 years between this baby and my last. I turn 39 tomorrow (July 31st) and never did I ever expect I would be spending my 39th year pregnant and welcoming a new little one into the world!

The recipe and video on how I make homemade sprinkles is now up on my blog!

Sprinkles are one of my favorite decorations in baking. I recently started making my own sprinkles and it's so much easier than you might think. Plus you get to make whatever colors and color combos you'd like. Here's my recipe for homemade sprinkles: 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted 1 tbls light c...

Feeding my sourdough starter:

35-40g of starter (honestly I don’t worry too much about going over on this amount)
125g luke warm water
140g flour (some people get all fancy with different types of flour, I just use an organic, unbleached, whole red wheat flour)

Mix this all together in a quart size mason jar. (Don’t use a smaller size or you will have an explosive mess of starter! I know from experience…) Put the lid on and store on the counter or in the fridge.

If I keep my starter on the counter then I’ll feed it everyday. If I keep it in the fridge I’ll feed it once a week.

We are making our way back to north Idaho on our little weekend road trip and we stopped in Grangeville on the Camas Prairie at a wonderful coffee shop called Crema Cafe. We got breakfast and I couldn’t resist grabbing one of their lovely Lavendar, BlackBerry and White Chocolate Cupcakes to go. I am feeling inspired to bake some fun cupcakes…

Easy pickled jalapeno recipe is now up on my blog!

We love these quick and easy pickled jalapenos. They don't last long once I make them so I make a nice big batch. You can always halve the recipe you need a smaller quantity. These are so good on tacos, burritos and salad or anything else your heart desires. Ingredients: 3 cups distilled white vineg...

In celebration of the first day of July (July is my birthday month, the 31st is my 39th birthday!) and a glorious summer Saturday morning I made myself iced coffee complete with homemade whipped cream, a drizzle of local, raw honey and a sprinkle of cinnamon. I did not sweeten the whipped cream but I did add a little vanilla extract. I don’t like my coffee crazy sweet and the honey gave it the perfect little bit of sweetness…
