Verlyn V. Bormann, of Preston, IA, passed away on February 27, 2024 at his home. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Preston. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veterans Honor Flight.

Verlyn was born September 15, 1948, son of Richard and Regina (Feller) Bormann. He grew up outside of Spragueville, and attended a one room schoolhouse down the road from the family farm. Right out of school, Verlyn began working at Sullivan’s Service Station in Preston. Verlyn joined the United States Army in 1968 and served his country in the Vietnam War. He was proud of his service for his entire life. Verlyn married the love of his life, Jane Kilburg, on August 22, 1968, at Fort Hood, TX. At the center of Verlyn’s life was his family. He was a proud husband, father, and grandfather. He showed his love by teasing his kids. Verlyn would say his grandkids brought the most joy to his life.

When Verlyn wasn’t working or taking care of his family, he loved to pass the time by taking in a baseball game. He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, but would watch any game as long as it was not a hot day, and he had a cold beer. He was a member of the AmVets and the American Legion, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Verlyn loved cars and was always particular of his vehicles. He and Jane would take day trips to car lots and auctions often.

Verlyn will be dearly missed by his wife, Jane Bormann of Preston; six children, Brent (Elizabeth) Bormann of Solon, IA, Lisa (Rick) Sullivan of Bryant, IA, Kurt (Stacy) Bormann of Preston, Kelley (P.J.)
