How can you tell if you have a pelvic organ prolapse?

Can you tell on my models what is prolapsing?

I’ve had a handful of ladies come in thinking they had a prolapse and they didn’t!😱😳

Would you be interested in learning how to check yourself? My idea is to make a video on “how to check to see if you have a prolapse”🤣 creative right?

you should make a “prolapse model”😃

I buy continuing education courses for fun, I buy books for education, I read stacks of research articles and I’m constantly reviewing old manuals. I can’t help myself🫣

Double-unders!!!!

Three ladies with three different techniques.

Each of us can leak with them.

Each of us can stay dry with them!

What gives?

Is there a right way to do them?

Is there a wrong way?

What do you do that you know will keep you dry or make you leak?

Thank you .b.fit for taking some pictures from last nights Diastasis Workshop!

If you would like to host or attend a small group workshop on diastasis and pelvic floor, send me a DM! I think it works best to have 5-6 or less ladies. We had 6 last night and everyone was able to get an ultrasound but I don’t think I’d want more than 6!

Who knows, maybe level 2 for those who attended this one???

I have to brag on this client for a moment! She walked into my office hopeful but very slow SLOW, she moved like a robot and her movements were guarded because of a long history of chronic pain.

She has been so open to all of my treatments and ready to work. She takes her homework seriously🙌 and has made me a better therapist🙏

For the movement professionals out there, I can’t say enough about “pelvis pro” course! It has been a game changer.

-the things we have worked on is to give this client rotation! -Specifically giving her more pelvis inlet IR.
-getting this client to lengthen her lower glutes vs clenching them so she can strengthen them!

-we aren’t done yet and I plan to check off all of her movement goals🙌💪

-This is my 20 some week pregnant client.
-Baby number 2.
-umbilical (belly button hernia)
-diastasis
-complaints of discomfort when standing below her belly.
-compression belly band and pregnancy pants are not comfortable and gave too much pressure down on the pelvic floor.
-kinesiology tape for the win. She can apply it at home with help and it provides relief of discomfort for 3-5 days.
-Aesthetically she places the tape over her umbilical hernia that pops out when she stands so it’s not so visible under clothing but it does help with any discomfort at the belly button!

Here she is using a combination of KT tape and Rocktape!

My client who is 24 weeks pregnant with TWINS gave me permission to post pictures and videos form our session in hopes someone will benefit!

She called frantic because she was in so much pain…Back, butt and tailbone pain…sometimes shooting pain down her leg. Difficulty walking and climbing stairs.

One thing I addressed was posture. With growing babies out front, there is a natural extension to keep you upright. Back muscles will become tight and overworked. Gripping of the back and butt and hip rotators!

I gave her a different option for seated and standing posture to try throughout the day as well and exercises to reinforce my goal.

I want more abdominals working, more glute max working, I want improved ribcage excursion out the back and less irritation of the sciatic nerve.

Scroll to see the before and after pictures! Stay tuned for some exercises to reinforce this new posture!

Treating urinary incontinence is touted as as “easy fix” but what I’ve learned is that’s not the case.

I took an advanced course last year on urinary incontinence and I was blown away by the complexities of what it takes to not leak! There are a multitude of factors that have to be working at the same time and it’s our responsibility as pelvic health PTs to screen for each one so that we know what treatment path would work best for our clients as well and when other more invasive options would be required!

✅We learned that some may women will not improve their leaking and how to screen for that.
✅We learned that the definition of success in research and our clients definition of success are not always the same when it comes to “curing incontinence.”
✅We learned that pelvic floor muscle strengthening does work but most of our treatment protocols are subpar what research actually recommends!

Don’t give up ladies! Find a pelvic health PT (maybe/often multiple will be needed)!

Dr. Steve Hodges is a pediatric urologist, author and researcher on the subject of incontinence in children. He strongly believes (based on research and what we know about bladder control) that children should not be toilet trained before the age of 3…and absolutely not before the age of 2.

✅if trained before age 2, children have a increased risk of bedwetting and constipation and “failure” to fully toilet train.
✅It is normal for a child’s nervous system to not fully develop bladder control until age 3!
✅Daytime dryness typically precedes nighttime dryness by 10 months
✅In the above typical scenarios, that is a child who is ready to toilet train during the day at 3 years old and night at 4 years old.

This week I will be educating you on toilet training children and this may very well shock a lot of you.

This is meant for education and not shaming. Even if it’s been years since you toilet trained children, there is always something you can do to help support their bowel and bladder function!

Take home points:
✅if you toilet trained your child on or before age 2 OR you are on a daycare time table, be diligent about making sure your child does not get constipated! I can’t stress this enough! Dr. Hodges says if your child is eating daily, they should be p**ping daily! Soft blobs of p**p are ideal for toddlers! No pellets or p**p that looks like a bunch of grapes.
✅If you are in the midst of toilet training and it’s “failing” or you are doing all the work without your toddler having an interest, STOP!

As pelvic health physical therapists, we have skilled training to perform internal vaginal and re**al examination and treatment of the pelvic floor muscles, nerves and connective tissues.

Schools out!

Now is a great time to work on your child’s bowel and bladder habits!

Did you know the number 1 reason for childhood bedwetting and accidents is constipation?

Constipation will rear its ugly head at…
*the introduction to first foods
*the start of toilet training
*the start of any major life change (new baby, house move, start of school etc)

I (Kailie) have advanced training in pediatric pelvic health!

Primary complaints I’ve treated…

-daytime p*e and p**p leakage
-nighttime bedwetting
-withholding (only p**ping in a diaper)
-giggle incontinence
-constipation
-urgency/frequency (your child has to p*e all the time)
-and more

***I’ve had success working virtually and in person from ages 1 and up! ***

Reach out for a free phone/email consultation to see if a bladder and bowel program is right for your child!

Meet Dr. Kailie Denham, DPT

Hello! I grew up on a small farm in Elk, Washington. I graduated from Riverside High School in Deer Park, WA where I played tennis and soccer. When I was 15 years old I tore my ACL playing soccer and had reconstructive surgery. It was during my rehabilitation that I discovered physical therapy. I received my bachelors degree in 2004 from Eastern Washington University in Human Biology and then went on to graduate school at Eastern Washington University, where I received my Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2007. I have worked in the geriatric setting for 10 years, but it wasn't until 2014 when I became pregnant with my first child, that I discovered my true passion in the area of women's health.

A textbook pregnancy followed by an almost perfect vaginal delivery should leave me with a perfect, uncomplicated, postpartum experience, right? Wrong!!!! Soon after delivery of my daughter, I discovered that I had stress urinary incontinence, diastasis re**us abdominis and a symptomatic grade 2-3 cystocele. I immediately began my own pelvic rehabilitation and further continuing education. It's been almost 3 years and I have no stress urinary incontinence, my diastasis is functional and I have no symptoms of a prolapse. Most of my improvement came in the first 2 years.

I am a pelvic floor physical therapist dedicated to women. I want to empower you through education. I feel that postpartum education and care for women is severely lacking and I am striving to change this in my community. I have continued education from Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute, Julie Wiebe, PT and Diane Lee, PT to name a few. I treat pelvic dysfunction including but not limited to prolapse, pelvic pain, bowel and bladder incontinence and diastasis re**us abdominis in pregnancy, postpartum and the athletic female. When I am not working, I enjoy traveling, CrossFit, backpacking, rock climbing and anything outdoors with my husband and daughter. I give glory to God for this amazing opportunity and my many blessings. I look forward to supporting you while helping you reach your goals!

Thank you, Kailie
