I don’t share *too much* about my love of poetry on any of my socials but since my appointment to the Milwaukie Poetry Series board and the fact I’ve been writing poems for 20 years I figure sharing my passion for this art form supports my goal to make social media a more beautiful place for self and community awareness to flourish.
That being said—
On this somber day in America I wanted to share a visceral and stunning poem, “Attempting to Fly” by Michele Wolf, whose jarring specificity does not flag readers down to gawk at tragedy; she stops us, places her hands on our shoulders and looks into our eyes; she wake us up to fully explore what so many of us heard in the news, or watched unfold in real time, or in documentaries.
I’ve never read a more haunting depiction of choice, or rather a harrowing illustration of being rendered so choiceless that we grasp for the impossible.
Poems like this are shared in the spirit of compassion and remembrance.
Thank you Michele S. Wolf for your work.
