Is your channel aligned with YouTube's goals?

At the 2021 VidSummit, YouTube Product Manager Todd Beaupré went on stage and told everyone that YouTube's recommendation system is trying to:

1) Help each viewer find the videos they want to watch, and

2) Maximize long-term viewer satisfaction

He emphasized that YouTube is focused on channel content that "is resonating with people in ways that keep them coming back.”

👉 That means the channels that grow and scale will be those with a core audience that binge watches their content. 👈

THIS should be the foundation of your YouTube content decisions, because it is the very foundation of the platform's discovery algorithm.

Your channel can become your company’s biggest marketing asset... or biggest waste of time.
If you want it to pay off, it should be in a niche with a lot of interest or in a format that people are going to binge watch.
For example, when trying to grow a big YouTube presence in the legal field, Devin Stone realized that there simply wasn't a big audience looking for law school-related content.
So instead, he created a YouTube channel format where he reacts to popular media from the perspective of a lawyer (called "Legal Eagle").
He now has 2.2M subscribers and averages about 10M views per month.
With a little forethought and creative thinking, your YouTube channel can change the course of your business forever.
