When Chad Francis, owner of Ellsworth-based Atlantic Landscape Construction, decided to build a home on Phillips Lake in Dedham, he knew he wanted to work with someone local. Francis tapped Robert Ervin of Ervin Architecture to create a six-bedroom, five-bathroom “Maine mountain modern” home that draws inspiration from nearby Acadia National Park. Transforming a landscape at Sebago Lake: A beautiful boulder wall, enhanced with thoughtful plantings, now creates a natural boundary between the public road and our client’s newly landscaped yard. Additional greenery adds privacy, screening the space from the nearby public beach, and turning it into a serene sanctuary.

Design-build firm Wogan Bros. () crafted a cozy custom library in a Greek Revival residence that accommodates the client’s vintage record collection. Painted in Benjamin Moore’s Spellbound, the color-drenched room features white oak flooring and an anthracite black Hudson Reed radiator along with a small gas fireplace.

Over the summer, hundreds of guests gathered at Cover Farm to celebrate the 35th annual Friends of Acadia () benefit. A cocktail hour and silent auction kicked off the night followed by a live auction, catered dinner, and plenty of dancing. In total, more than $300,000 was raised to replace Acadia National Park’s aging fleet of heavy equipment. Thanks to all attendees and supporters!

Bear witness to the journey of growth, creativity, and learning between mentors and apprentices from Maine and New Hampshire at the opening reception for the Maine Craft Association’s () eighth annual Craft Apprentice Program Capstone Exhibition TONIGHT from 5-7pm at the Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts in Edgecomb.

Running through October 29, the show celebrates the culmination of the seven-month-long apprenticeship cycle that spanned crafts from green wood furniture making and basket weaving to wood firing, sustainable textiles, and more.
