Remembering 9/11 - Beyond the immediate and obvious tragedies lies even more loss. Records, artwork and even inventories of these items were destroyed. It was assumed they were safe within the twin towers. Disasters whether natural, man made or acts of terrorism teach us the importance of being prepared.

Heather rocks! Congrats!

Staff brag! ARMA has a dedicated team of professionals who work to serve our membership and industry. While they are all stars in their own way, let us brag specifically on Heather Lehman who was recognized last night by her local association with the “Star” award. Well done, Heather! Your enthusiasm for our association and the association profession is palpable.

Happy Friday! Our volunteers just finished scanning our vinegar syndrome ODOT photograph negatives. This is a good example of degradation and why we are scanning our negatives. Once this process starts, there is no way of reversing it. What we can do is scan and then place the original negative in a freezer to slow down the process.

Many thanks to all of our interns and volunteers that helped with this project! We couldn't have done it without you!

This is Yaquina Bay Bridge. Date unknown.

Have a great weekend!

When the Aberdeen Museum of History burned last summer, Washington State Archives and Washington State Library stepped in to recover and restore thousands of historic photos and documents from water and soot damage. Now they are being recognized by the Washington State Historical Society with a much-deserved award. We tip our hats to all the professionals and volunteers who saved a huge piece of Washington history.

When the Aberdeen Museum of History burned down in June 2018, a team from the Washington State Archives played a crucial role in rushing to rescue and restore thousands of historic artifacts, historical documents and photographs from the basement archives before water and soot damage destroyed them.
