Unchosen songs rest,
Once unmatched, now glow with time,
Inspiration’s spark.
These are the home demos I recorded for “Back Into The Dream.” During Christmas 2021, I was holed up in my home studio, Sacred Sounds—basically a room I built within my garage, hence the name “Back Into The Garage.” At this point in the songwriting process, I’m just tossing out every idea I have to see what sticks. It’s only after doing a rough mix and living with the songs for a few days that I can tell which ones have legs. Sometimes I’m right, sometimes I’m wrong. Then I show the songs to the band, and we start honing and re-recording them for the final version you hear on “Back Into The Dream.”
I remember being really attached to the demos from this album. I did pretty rough mixes and ran everything through the SketchCassette plugin, which gave everything a warm, saturated sound with all of this 4-track tape-y goodness. A couple of months ago, I was digging through my archives and stumbled upon these demos again. It took me right back to that magical moment of creation, where inspiration trumps perfection. I was surprised to find I actually liked some of the songs I had rejected for the album.
So here you have it: a collection of charmingly imperfect songs. It’s a nice sneak peek into my creative process and my limited musical abilities on drums. Enjoy!

Sun Atoms’ sophomore magnum opus “Everything Forever” was mixed in one of the greatest marvels of prehistoric Britain at Avebury Henge in Jagz Kooner’s Stone Circles Studios. The album includes incredible cameos from Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock, Brooklyn’s Jasno Swarez of The Vandelles, and Los Angeles’ Lauren Andino of Tremours, amongst other luminaries. This second offering of songs realizes the promise that was there in the debut not only musically, but in a sacred sense. This album gets between the ears, then heads south down past the brain and into the heart. The LP’s initial single, Ceiling Tiles, drew praise from NYC’s The Big Takeover magazine saying, “The music is a taste of the future. It may draw together recognizable gothic grooves and hushed tones, brooding bass lines and guitars that ebb and flow between abrasive salvos and chiming beauty, but, as always, it is the resulting sonic architecture rather than the building blocks themselves that are the whole point. The resultant song is a beautiful vision of a future for alternative music with all the bombast and bravado, volume and velocity, pose and ego stripped away.”

Sun Atoms looked down the barrel of album number two without flinching. The band wrote this album together as a band, all taking songwriting credits to various degrees on these 8 otherworldly tracks. Sun Atoms is made up Peter G. Holmström, Jsun Atoms, June Kang, Mars de Ponte, Derek Spencer Longoria-Gomez, and Eric Rubalcava.
