Looking to learn about Procreate Dreams? Welcome to our Intro to Procreate Dreams for Animators Workshop! Join Daniel and at Portland Digital Dabblers Events for a hands-on workshop where we’ll take all the hassle out of learning this powerful, albeit frustrating, new animation tool. Expect a lot of learning, laughs, yes some struggles lol, but support from all who attend. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to enhance your skills, this workshop is perfect for all levels.

Parts of this workshop are guided, and parts are co-discovery. Make sure to bring projects you’re working on and your own device (iPad Pro or iPad Air and an Apple Pencil).

We’ll cover:

Basic UI and finding the tools

Basics of animation and how to approach the craft

Help with Procreate Dreams animations

The goal is to have fun, meet fellow artists, learn useful skills, and make art together!

Starting off the new year the Digital Dabblers will be flocking to Baerlic Brewing in SE, co-hosting our first mid-week happy hour Drink-N-Draw social with .experience

When: Jan 22nd at 6:30 - 10:30pm
Where: Baerlic Brewry & Taproom, 2239 SE 11th Ave, Portland, OR 97214

Wacom was gracious enough to help us secure the meeting space and will be bringing various gadgets and devices to try out while you enjoy delicious beverages and food offered at Baerlic (seriously have you seen their pizza!?). In addition, we will have a Magma art jam available for anyone who would like to draw with others on a collaborative real-time online canvas.

Raffle: Everyone in attendance has the option to enter a raffle to receive a FREE one-month membership for free classes/workshops offered by the Digital Dabblers Guild (a $100 value).

I am thrilled to continue with our tradition of hosting "Digital Creatives & Coffee" our bi-weekly Sunday Social . Over the past few years, the staff have always been so courteous and accommodating of our group. Serving delicious coffee, vegan burritos, and pastries while helping us grow and eventually incorporate as a nonprofit 501(c)(3). I couldn't recommend this cafe enough for anyone looking to host a community art group with friends :)

Digital Dabblers provides space for content creators in Portland to meet and socialize beyond the screen, share their art/progress, and learn from each other. We have been hosting these socials for over 2 years and developed a strong leadership team and safe/welcoming environment for folks at all skills levels to feel welcome. We look forward to seeing you there!

To all my introverts, aspiring digital artists old and new, 3d modelers, animators, Procreate artists, and illustrators:

"Twas the holiday season, and much to his chagrin, Daniel simply couldn't find a place where he fit in :( No places could quite offer what he wanted to learn, some were too expensive, for kids, or an intern.

'I want to learn Digital Art with flippin sweet tools but I don't want to pay for these overpriced schools!'

On a whim he decided, this simply wouldn't do--so he set out on a mission arduous and new! To create a nonprofit for digital creatives, of every level, to learn 3d art tools like how to bevel!

And so it became the Digital Dabblers, an official nonprofit as of this Fall! Finally a place where they could learn it all!"

I am ecstatic to announce the Digital Dabblers first ever figure and gesture drawing workshop (study of movement) at our physical space in the heart of Portland this Sunday Oct 27th, 945am-1130am.

About this Event:
Chairs will be set up classroom style surrounding a live model with two cameras positioned above and to the side of the model and projected onto the far wall. This way you get 3 total live views (natural, side, above). In addition, props, LED lights, and other objects will be incorporated into the lesson.

Agenda:

10 – 10:15 – Intro and ground rules Explain gestures and timer.

10:20 – 10:30 – 30 second gestures, then 1 minute gestures

10:30 – 11 – 3, 3 minute poses. 4, 5 minute poses.

11 – 11:20 – Two long poses. 10 minutes per pose. At this point we can set up lighting.

11:20 – 11:30 – Wrap up, show and tell.

About the instructor:
(Annie) found her way into our community and within her first month was already volunteering to help us organize this event! including planning/content, finding a live model, and hosting on a re-occuring basis.

Let’s have a party! On Saturday August 17, the Digital Dabblers will be flocking to the Dabney State Recreation Area for some fun and relaxation. Join us for picnicking, swimming, floating, disc golf, hiking and more!

ACTIVITY SCHEDULE
• 10-10:30 Unpacking/Setup
• 10:30-Noon: Party kickoff and games/activities start (disc golf, swimming, hiking/walking, horseshoes, arts/crafts, etc.). Snacks/drinks in cooler.
• Lunch at Noon
• Dabblers Special Short Film Premiere 12:30pm!!!
• Raffle 1pm
• Mass exodus no later than 2:30

CARPOOLING
For carpooling, event organizers will meet at Honey Latte Cafe at 9AM. We will aim to be at Dabney State Park by 10AM.

Parking is $5 per vehicle at the park and is limited to first come/first serve. Permits are purchased on site (recommend bringing cash).

In this 24hr Indie Art Jam we will all be collaborating on a ~60 second animated/mixed media video from story concept, script, storyboards, rough animations, voice/audio recording, and the final piece.
*note” ALL art/animations/audio/video MUST be captured within the 24hr time limit, but video editing will occur over the 2 weeks before the premiere of the short film 🙂

THEME OF THE PIECE
The Theme of this art jam is: “the story of Digital Dabblers,” told from the perspective of our members both new and longstanding.

EVENT AGENDA
So, you may be asking yourself how the heck is this going to work?! What is the theme, what software are we using, etc. Let’s cover all that!

When you RSVP, each artist will answer with what they are interested in focusing on (i.e. animation, backgrounds, concept art, audio, writing, etc.). And which hours/days they are available.

9am – 12pm Saturday: I will start the event on Discord and meet at our events space. We will have a Magma collaborative canvas going and have a general social for everyone to pitch ideas and discuss (either in-person or online). We will also be discussing software everyone is using, and what style we are going for (2d/3d/both, hand-drawn, color theory, etc.).

1pm – 4pm Saturday: Writing/Concept Art/Rough animations will be happening in tandem as we continue to flesh out ideas generated from the morning art jam and ideation session. Each artist can pick a section to animate, or provide other content in this 3hr sprint.

BREAK 4-6pm

6-Midnight Saturday: Cleanup animations, record voice work and sound effects, discuss music choices.

6am-9am Sunday: Final Submissions!!!!

9AM SUNDAY: ALL PENCILS DOWN (submissions closed).

After the 24hr Jam video editing will occur over the following week and assembling the final video.

Final PREMIERE will occur at our Summer Party at Dabney State Park on August 17th!!!!!

This is a rough schedule outline, we will do our best to keep to it but things will likely change as the event gets going. It will be fun, semi-organized chaos! Folks can also contribute art at any time in-between 9am Saturday to 9am Sunday.
