I came into dubstep late in the game. At the big buildup and drop off a couple years later. I missed early pirate radio (didn't live in the UK), Stella Sessions, Bare Files, Dub Wars, all of it. Even missed what was happening here in the USA. My intro was the American sound. But I quickly found my true north in weekly GetDarker live streams. "You're tuned into the GetDarker podcast".
GetDarker episode 100. GetDrunker Christmas episode with the Bussa Skank dance. Benton and Walsh sets forever. I’d love to hear from Darkside about the evolution of the different studios. I finally realized they were studio sharing with DNBTV. Why did they move every year or so? And also who was “dubby girl”? She was ALWAYS getting shouts in the chats. I miss Tunnidge and Cyrus too.
GetDarker gang taught me about good dubstep. Introduced me to the history of the scene and helped me carve out my lane of interests. It was a history lesson and a vehicle to keep the scene going at the same time for people like me who didn't get the direct exposure from being in the right place at the right time. I don't think Darkside and gang get enough recognition for their part in pushing the scene forward and the time and dedication they put in doing what they did. Their YouTube and SoundCloud is literally one of the biggest and best repositories of dubstep mixes anywhere online. And I still have 4 out of 7 label releases to track down to complete the collection.
