By the age of 10, most children in the United States have been taught all 50 states that make up the country. But centuries ago, the land that is now the United States was a very different place. Over 20 million Native Americans dispersed across over 1,000 distinct tribes, bands, and ethnic groups populated the territory.
History is not there for you to like or dislike. It is there for you to learn from it. And if it offends you, even better. Because then you are less likely to repeat it. It’s not yours for you to erase or destroy.

Before our white brothers arrived to make us civilized men,
we didn't have any kind of prison. Because of this, we had no delinquents.
Without a prison, there can be no delinquents.
We had no locks nor keys and therefore among us there were no thieves.
When someone was so poor that he couldn't afford a horse, a tent or a blanket,
he would, in that case, receive it all as a gift.
We were too uncivilized to give great importance to private property.
We didn't know any kind of money and consequently, the value of a human being
was not determined by his wealth.
We had no written laws laid down, no lawyers, no politicians,
therefore we were not able to cheat and swindle one another.
We were really in bad shape before the white men arrived and I don't know
how to explain how we were able to manage without these fundamental things
that (so they tell us) are so necessary for a civilized society."
- John (Fire) Lame Deer, Sioux Lakota - 1903 -

Keanu Reeves, often describing himself as a "private kid," attended four different high schools, one of which was the Etobicoke School of the Arts, where he was eventually expelled for being too unruly and outspoken. He attributes this behavior partly to his dyslexia, which made academic success challenging for him. Despite struggles with reading, he excelled as an ice hockey goalkeeper at De La Salle College and even entertained dreams of playing for the Canadian Olympic team. However, at the age of 15, he decided to pursue acting instead. Reeves continued his education at Avondale Secondary Alternative School, which accommodated his acting career. He eventually dropped out of high school at 17. Reeves later obtained a green card through his American stepfather and moved to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career, though he retains only Canadian citizenship.

My people have come to trust memory over history. Memory, like fire, is radiant and immutable while history serves only those who seek to control it, those who douse the flame of memory to put out the dangerous fire of truth. Beware these men for they are dangerous themselves and unwise. Their false history is written in the blood of those who might remember and of those who seek the truth.

His most successful single from that time period, ""Cowboy"" (1999), is considered a pioneering song in the country rap genre. His best-selling singles overall are ""Picture"" (2002) and ""All Summer Long"" (2008). Starting with his 2007 album Rock n Roll Jesus, his musical output has tended to be in the country rock style. His nephew Cole Brings Plenty portrays Pete Plenty Clouds in two episodes of 1923.
As an actor, he has played bit parts in Hidalgo, Thunderheart, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Brings Plenty is concerned about providing accurate representations of Native peoples in mass media. He says, ""Young people told me they don’t see our people on TV. Then it hit me, they are right. Where are our indigenous people, people who are proud of who they are?"" Brings Plenty also works behind the scenes on Yellowstone and its spin-off prequels 1883 and 1923 as Taylor Sheridan's American Indian Affairs Coordinator to make sure that each show appropriately represents Native culture." ~
