Want to know how to write a good website headline? There are lots of ways to do it, but here is a great place to start!

01. Tell visitors what your business does.
This may sound obvious, but go look at a few websites and you'll be surprised how many people overlook this important point. For most businesses this is pretty straightforward. However, it can be difficult to answer when you have many different specialties you work in.
Don’t overthink it.

02. Your target customer
It’s important to focus on the customers that are most likely to want and need your services. Trying to target everyone will water down the message.
Clarity is key, so being straight up about who you serve is helpful to your visitors.

03. What makes you different
Often referred to as your “differentiating factor” or your “unique selling point”, this is something that is a hallmark of your business and can’t be claimed by every other yahoo in your industry. This is your chance to resonate with your customer. It’s the aha moment where they realize that your business is the right fit for the job or event.

I love the attitude of this quote. It's very much my own personal mantra as well. If I can land a job, I know I can make them a repeat customer. Under promise, over deliver - basically, I always include extras in my web site packages designed to make it easier for businesses to gather their content for their website.

How do you go above and beyond for your clients?

It's mood board time!!

This project was so fun because the business owner had such a clear idea of what he didn't want. So my job was to uncover what he did want. He didn't want the traditional architecture website and wanted to go with a dark color scheme.

I for this logo I played with lots of different concepts that were related to the building industry. The owner is a true craftsman who is very into woodwork and metalwork and so I looked at concepts related to joinery and how things fit together.

He gave feedback on each of the logo concepts and I got a better idea of what he was looking for. Then when I presented this logo, we both knew this was it. Simple but unique, just like their business style.

Tips & tricks for getting the most out of your brand photoshoot.

As a web designer, there are some tricks of the trade I’ve found, that will help elevate the look of your website, and also make it easily translate from desktop to mobile. So if you're going to invest in a photographer, let's make sure to get it right!

1. Ask the photographer to not crop photos closely in editing.

While this may be great for framing a photo, the closer the crop, the more limited the designer will be when designing your website. The reason for this is that the screen size will change depending on if the site is viewed on a desktop, tablet, or mobile. Having extra room around the subject will give much more flexibility to the design of the website.

2. Even if you don't want to be the main subject, make sure to get at least one good headshot or team photo.

Studies show that images of people help create a connection with your audience. Looking head-on into the camera inspires trust while looking to the side, directs people's eyes to the text.

3. Make sure to get a few good b-roll photos.

B-roll photos can be process photos, artful images of your office or work. It could be of you working or looking away from the camera. Maybe it’s just your hands working on a project. These photos will go far to helping round out the website and add interest while helping to tell the story of what you do.
