In college I was turned onto the Cruisin' 1957 record -- it's a gem.

Just picked up Cruisin' 1956, which is pretty good too. The radio DJ on it can't hold a candle to Joe Niagara of WIBG though.

I really love the Blondie version of this. But who originally wrote and performed it? The band the Nerves, featuring Peter Case, who later went on to be part of the killer LA band the Plimsouls.

This original performance is pretty good, which is why Blondie, after hearing a cassette tape of it, decided to cover it. The rest is history.
