WOW. Beryl is now a category 3 storm with winds at 115 mph. The eye has cleared out and could push cat 4 before arriving at the Leeward Islands! History in the making here.
Another active afternoon with storms developing along the west coast sea breeze that will march towards the east coast. Flooding rains will once again be the main threat, but of course localized chances for a brief tornado is not out of the question.
Nice rotation from that system with a high chance for development (95L). Limiting factors are the dry air towards the north and easterly shear. This system is small and looks to overcome them.
Today and tomorrow will feature stronger southwest winds that will allow storms to develop further east. Like every other day, most activity will be in the afternoon. Heavy rain and gusty winds the main threat.
Some pretty robust tropical waves out in the main development region. Nothing expected to develop, but the Caribbean islands could see much needed rain in the coming days. Signs of a busy season ahead.
Very heavy rain along the Georgia coast from that stalled low. As daytime heating increases and the sea breeze forms, storm coverage will increase after 2 PM.
92L spinning right off the coast of northeastern Florida. Nice bubbling of convection near center, but northeasterly shear blowing the storms off the center. Gulf stream magic could allow this to become a tropical depression/weak tropical storm Beryl right before landfall.
Morning satellite view of that low. Got some nice spin but storms are displaced towards the north. Dry air and wind shear will prevent this from strengthening but the gulf stream could allow brief strengthening.
Scattered showers and isolated storms will come ashore from the Atlantic through tomorrow. A surface trough highlighted by the NHC will approach northeastern Florida by Friday increasing the rain chances up there. Models still not showing any development with this.
Here is that disturbance that passed through Florida with a small chance of development. Still very sheared. Not seeing it develop anymore.
Nice infrared satellite loop of the ongoing heavy rain. Increased intensity of lightning indicating a very unstable atmosphere. As the day goes on with daytime heating, this should allow more storms to fire up and 'train' over the same area allowing rain totals upwards to 6-8 inches in localized areas.
Very heavy rain across South Florida this morning with numerous flood warnings and even a couple of tornado warnings! There was a confirmed tornado out by alligator alley while the warning in martin county has not touched down.
Widespread rains spreading across the peninsula. Main threat will be very heavy rain as some places could exceed 4-5 inches if any training storms develop. This will be a daily thing throughout the week causing flooding problems.
Storms have formed along the seabreeze and will interact with other boundaries. Most of the rain will stay in the Treasure Coast and southward but still some action north. Same story tomorrow before we head into a wet period.
Showers and storms fired up across across the eastern part of the state. Heavy rain, gusty winds, and small hail have been reported. Activity will slow down after sunset from the loss of daytime heating.
Looking ahead at the end of the week, a trough moves through the state Thursday allowing better chances for storms. After that, drier air moves in lower the chances, but not completely.
Temperature values through Wednesday afternoon. 'Cooler along the coast north of the Cape due to northeast winds which will hang around until Tuesday. 90s will come back for the whole state by Wednesday.
Some storms firing up around Lake Okeechobee. The sea breeze is quickly racing inland which will be the focal point for additional storms to develop. Some storms will be strong to marginally severe.
Storms popping up along the outflow boundary from the dying storms this morning. Gusty winds, small hail and frequent lightning are occurring with these storms. Additional devlopment of storms is possible
Showers and storms firing up and heading east. Heavy rain, tons of lightning, and small coined size hail are possible.
