🚨 Winter Weather Fun ❄️

There may not be much snow, but the sleet has made the roads a bit treacherous. The best advice? Stay home if you can and stay safe! 🏡✨

Why not make the most of this day at home? CJ got creative and made a miniature snowman this morning to keep himself entertained. ⛄️ We'd love to see how you're spending this wintry day—send us your winter weather photos! 📸

You can share your pictures with us here or email them to [email protected].

Stay warm, stay safe, and let's share some frosty fun! ❄️🌨️

****CAUTION****

Good morning! Roads and bridges are barely passable, and the ice is thick and could create dangerous situations. If you don’t have to be out: stay in, stay warm, stay safe! With a few more hours of icy precipitation forecasted, conditions could get worse. We will continue to monitor road conditions.

Thank you!

📣 Attention Port Lavaca! It looks like we are in for some cold! 🥶

Calhoun County may not be known for frosty weather, but the weather people say next week’s cold snap has plans to remind us that freezing temps are actually a thing. Now is the time to prepare. Don’t let your pipes fall victim to the anticipated freeze—follow these tips to keep the water flowing and the stress level low:

🌟 Unhook and Drain Outdoor Hoses
Your garden hose deserves a break. Disconnect it to prevent burst faucets and pipes!

🌟 Wrap Those Pipes!
Garage, attic, crawl space... If it's unheated, wrap it up. Think of it as putting a sweater on your house. Even newspaper works in a pinch!

🌟 Heat Tape is Your Friend
UL-listed "heat tape" or "heat cables" are like cozy blankets for your pipes. Install them and let the warmth do the work.

🌟 Seal Cracks and Drafts
Plug up those sneaky cold air gaps. Just don’t block vents for your furnace or water heater—they like breathing too.

🌟 Find Your Master Shutoff Valve
Paint it neon pink if you must, but make sure everyone knows where it is. It’s your hero in a burst pipe emergency!

🌟 Drip, Drip, Drip
A slow drip (5 drops per minute) keeps the freeze at bay
For more tips, check out the flyer and prep now before the cold rolls in. And remember, if your pipes are already frozen, resist the urge to use a blowtorch or any other open flame! (Seriously, just don’t. 🛑) A hair dryer on low heat is your safest bet.

Stay warm, Port Lavaca!
