The Port Aransas South Jetty newspaper just won first place in the news photos category among Division 2 newspapers in the South Texas Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest.
The contest results were announced today at the organization's 94th annual convention, held virtually this year due to COVID-19 concerns.
The South Jetty's win came partly on the strength of this photo shot by South Jetty reporter Zach Perkins. The picture shows Spring Breakers falling when a flag pole they were climbing broke on the beach in Port Aransas on March 13, 2019. No injuries were reported.
The South Jetty also won some other awards in this annual contest. Check out our upcoming Aug. 13 issue to see the full list.

The ferry is a rite of passage for visitors to Port A. It’s how you know you have arrived. It’s where the vacation starts. For most kids, it’s down right magical.
