LIVE: Day 5 Ox Sam Camp at Peehee Mu’huh /Thacker Pass Lithium Mine

New Ceremony Tipi erected at Pee’zuh (Ni**le Rock/Sentinal Butte). The United States and its agencies have neglected to protect this sacred site which should be listed on the Nation Register of Historic Places, it should receive World Heritage protection. The butte is integral to Paiute Shoshone world view & ceremony; this land is the site of 2 massacres of Paiute Shoshone people of which Ox Sam survived in 1865. Ox Sam’s descendants have formed Ox Sam Camp Newe Momokonee Nokotun (Indigenous Women’s Camp). — at PeeHee Mu’huh, Mni Wiconi. This second tipi is here to protect this sacred butte for unborn, for the ceremonies which need to be done here.

We ask you to please share this live stream, support the grassroots effort, and get involved. Thank you Peshu’u

LIVE: Day 5 Ox Sam Camp at Peehee Mu’huh /Thacker Pass Lithium Mine

We are still standing strong here at Ox Sam Camp. We hold space for the land and the water and future generations… in ceremony, where the elders erected a tipi directly on Lithium Nevada’s water pipeline construction — at PeeHee Mu’huh, the Paiute Nation’s traditional cultural district. Mni Wiconi.

We ask you to please share this live stream, support the grassroots effort, and get involved. Thank you.

LIVE: Day 4 Ox Sam Camp at Peehee Mu’huh /Thacker Pass Lithium Mine

We just had a wonderful spring storm on the fourth day of ceremony. We were huddled in the tipi that rests over the 10 mile water pipeline route at the Thacker Pass mine.

And on this Mother’s Day, we wish you all the best… to mother’s the world over, and to our Mother Earth and future generations.

Special shout out to Auntie Deb Haaland.

We ask you to please share this live stream, support the grassroots effort, and get involved. Thank you.

LIVE: Prayer Action at Peehee Mu’huh /Thacker Pass Lithium Mine

Early this morning, two Paiute spiritual leaders — Dean Barlese from the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, and Dorece Sam from the Fort McDermitt Paiute Shoshone Tribe — began a prayer for the water, the land, and future generations at Peehee Mu’huh, also known as Thacker Pass, where construction of an open-pit lithium mine is ongoing at a Northern Paiute sacred site.

A teepee is going up blocking construction of the mine and supporters have begun to gather on-site. We ask you to please share this live stream, support the grassroots effort, and get involved. Thank you.

Our relative, tȟatȟáŋka (the buffalo), is an example of how we approach our work at SAGE. We are committed to ensuring we don't waste any resources and that all we do benefits the Oyáte.

The buffalo gave up its own life to feed and sustain our ancestors and provide for their every need. Our ancestors wasted no part of their sacrifice and honored them for their sacrifice.

The buffalo symbolizes self-sacrifice; it gives until there is nothing left. This is the cornerstone of the Lakota/Dakota way of life. Our wealth is not determined by how much we store up but by how much we give away.

We will honor Uŋčí Maká (Grandmother Earth) and use her resources for the Oyáte. Not only through cleaner energy but by reinvesting back into the community.

As the Oceti Ŝakowiŋ we must lead by example in healing our relationship with Uŋčí Maká (Grandmother Earth). She has been wounded and mistreated, but as we return to our language, lifeways, and spirituality, we can reconnect in a sacred way.

Through colonization and assimilation, we have defied the natural order of all things. Across the globe, we see the consequences of our relationships with Uŋčí Maká. However, we will see restoration and healing as we return to our traditional teachings.

Help confront the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW) by telling your senators to vote for the Family Violence Prevention and Services Improvement Act and asking the Department of Justice to follow through with full and thorough implementation of Savanna’s Act.

Today we honor the Snotty Nose Rez Kids as Native Stars You Need to Know. Darren "Young D" Metz and Quinton "Yung Trybez" Nyce released their first album in 2017. Since that time, they have released three additional albums and multiple sold-out tours.

They have taken Native Hip Hop to a level rarely seen. Not only are two of the most talented rappers in the world, but they tell a message that resonates. They inspire us to be proud to be indigenous and motivate us to be the change our ancestors dreamed about.

Every generation has a handful of musicians that have an impact more significant than just the music. SNRRK is one of those groups.

In response to the owner of the Grand Gateway Hotel announcing that she would be banning all Native Americans from her hotel and attached Lounge, Tribal Leaders of the Oceti Sakowin issued a trespassing notice and cease and desist order.

The notice states, "In accordance with the treaty and the laws located in the United States of America, and as a consequence of your act, you must permanently cease and desist from the violations charged. You are instructed to vacate and remove your persons and any personal property you deem necessary from the Treaty Territory of the Great Sioux Nation immediately."

As Lakota people, we experience racism regularly while visiting Rapid City despite it being Lakota territory. Actions must have consequences, and we're asking you to join us in demanding that the U.S. Department of Justice investigate and take corrective action immediately. President Barack Obama signed the Stolen Valor Act in 2013. The Act made it a federal crime to fraudulently claim to be a recipient of military decorations or medals. When people wear unearned ceremonial feathers and war bonnets, they are guilty of the same concept.

In our Lakota culture, eagle feathers are earned through selfless acts of courage and honor. They are gifted in gratitude for a person's work or service to our communities. Very few have earned the right to wear a war bonnet.

Our culture is not for their entertainment.

The "Indianettes" drill team from Port Neches-Groves, Texas, recently appeared at Disney's Magic Kingdom. They were disappointed to learn the park now has a policy preventing them from making a mockery of Native ceremonial war bonnets.

That didn't stop the team from sporting feathers in their hair and other offensive gear or supporters from chanting "Scalp 'em!" Let's flood Port Neches-Groves with emails telling them to change their name and stop with the offensive and harmful cultural stereotypes!

As indigenous people, generosity is a significant part of our spiritual DNA. One example of this generosity was by the Choctaw Nation in 1847. Despite struggling themselves because they had just recently been relocated to Oklahoma through the Trail of Tears. Many of their relatives had died along the way. They had been forcefully removed from their homes and were dealing with their own trauma at the hands of the United States government.

Despite this hardship, the Choctaws heard about the potato famine that was going on in Ireland. They looked past their own difficulties and took up an offering of $170, which is estimated to be the equivalent of $5000 today.

The Irish people have never forgotten the generosity of the Choctaw people. As a result, in 2017, the Irish built a sculpture commemorating the Choctaws, and their gift, known as "Kindred Spirits," in Midleton, Ireland.

Because generosity eventually comes full circle. The Irish people raised almost two million dollars for the Navajo and Hopi at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in honor of the Choctaw people's generosity.

As Lakota people, our ancestors measured their worth by how much they gave away. We know that times are challenging, but our circumstances do not define our generosity. Your generosity might not be financial. Perhaps it will be shoveling an elder's driveway today or cutting their grass this spring.

Don't wait for the door to open; seek ways to show generosity!
