Mary Katherine (Brown) Goss, 76, of Ponca City, OK, passed peacefully at Stillwater Medical Center on December 18, 2025. A celebration of her life will be held at 11am on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Albright United Methodist Church with Andy Lambel pastor of Albright United Methodist Church, officiating.
Katie, as friends and family have always known her, was born on April 14, 1949 to George Alva Brown and Opal (Musgrave) Brown in Ponca City, OK. Katie attended and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1967. She married David Louis Goss of Perry, OK on October 29, 1971 at First United Methodist Church in Perry, OK. She and David had one daughter before divorcing in May 1979.
Katie had a long career as a Certified Professional Secretary and earned an Associates degree in General Business. She worked for Evans and Associates in Ponca City from May 1980 until May of 1997. She then joined the staff of the Marland Mansion from 1997 until 2000. At the Mansion, she assisted the Director and found that she enjoyed leading historical tours and coordinating event rentals of the facility. In 2000, she went to work for the Parks and Recreation Department where she remained until retirement in July 2015. Throughout the mid 1980s and early 1990s, she also worked for her parents’ auction and real estate business, and earned her real estate license.
Having been raised with an emphasis on the value of hard work and service to her community, Katie devoted much of her time and talents to Albright United Methodist Church, of which she had been a life-long member. Katie was also a member of United Methodist Women (currently United Women in Faith), volunteered in the Northern Prairie District office of the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church, and served as her church’s representative on the Board of the Child Development Center of Ponca City. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Hospice of North Central Oklahoma. Finally, Katie served on Ponca City’s Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association Board.
Katie was an avid reader and lover of the performing arts. She regularly attended Ponca Playhouse productions and Music in the Garden performances at Cann Memorial Gardens as well as OKC Broadway shows at the OKC Civic Center. She especially looked forward to opportunities to see her three grandchildren’s theatrical and musical productions throughout their school years.
Katie was preceded in death by her father, George Alva Brown, her mother, Opal (Musgrave) Brown, and her sister, Patsy Jean (Brown) Martin. She is survived by her daughter, Ammie Bryant, son-in-law, Jefferson Bryant, and three grandchildren all of Stillwater, OK; two sisters, Judy Ritthaler (Robert Ritthaler) and Linda Stevens (Bill Stevens) both of Perry, OK and many nieces and nephews and their families.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Katie’s memory to the Ponca City Child Development Center.
