Eleven people were arrested in Claremont on Thursday as three undercover officers posing as prostitutes were contacted by 10 would-be customers and one pimp.

The Claremont Police Department “received multiple complaints from residents, business owners, and [passersby] regarding prostitution” near Indian Hill Boulevard and the 10 Freeway, police said in a news release.

At that location, the undercover officers posed as prostitutes and were solicited for s*x by 10 “Johns,” or would-be customers, who were then arrested by other officers in the area, police said.

Those 10 people are:

Alexander Anthony Guerra, 33 years old from Pomona
Santos Villatamoreno, 35 years old from Highland
Brian Eugene Cannon, 46 years old from Hesperia
Stevey Macias Yanez, 47 years old from Pomona
Jose Anaya, 30 years old from Pomona
Jason Orellana, 25 years old from Pomona
Sergio Andrade, 44 years old from Ontario
Malik Edwards, 29 years old from Claremont
Wilmer Hernandeznino, 32 years old from Ontario
Isaias Castroesparza, 33 years old from Bloomington
Castroesparza is also a registered s*x offender for s*xual battery, police said.

An 11th man, Raheem Tiyon Blackmon, was also arrested for attempting to “pimp and pander” an undercover officer, authorities said. Blackmon, a 31-year-old from Antoich, was taken to a hospital for medical reasons, and his case will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office for possible charges.

The 10 alleged Johns were booked and released with citations for a pending appearance in Pomona Superior Court.

🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

Please share with your family and friends who may not have social media.

Be cautious when approached with unexpected offers, especially in parking lots. Recently, an individual was targeted by scammers who claimed to have won the lottery and needed assistance to claim their prize. They promised a hefty reward but asked for a large upfront deposit. Sadly, the victim fell for the scam, losing $18,000 in the process. Remember, legitimate lottery winnings don't require you to front money. Stay vigilant and report suspicious activity to law enforcement.

ETA: It's disheartening that the victim, who was elderly, was targeted by these scammers, who often prey on the most vulnerable. Similar types of scams are common and these predators can be extremely convincing. We hope that by educating our community, we can lessen the chance of more people being victimized.

Adopt a dog. Hurry.

Adopt a dog. Hurry.

Dear Community,
We cannot stress the urgency of our plea enough. Our shelter is in a critical situation due to a current distemper outbreak, and we are rapidly running out of options. As we continue to separate incoming dogs from potentially exposed ones, we are faced with the heartbreaking possibility of having to euthanize adoptable dogs to make space for incoming dogs.

But this is not a decision we want to make. We do not want to euthanize any adoptable dogs. However, without the support of the public, we are left with few alternatives.

FREE DOG ADOPTIONS!

In an effort to prevent this tragic outcome, we are waiving all dog adoption fees until April 15th. By adopting a dog from our shelter, you are not only saving a life but also providing a loving home to a deserving dog in need.

Every adoption includes:

✅Spayed or neutered dog
✅Vaccinations
✅Flea Treatment
✅Microchip & Registration
✅GoodPup Training

Additionally, if you are missing your dog, please visit our website to see if it’s in our care. If your dog is here, we urge you to come claim them and reunite with your furry friend. We can work with you on any fees that may be owed.

By opening your heart and home to one of our loving dogs, you’re not only giving them a second chance at life but also aiding us in our mission to keep all dogs safe and healthy. Every adoption means another precious life saved.

Please visit our website to view the dogs in our care. When you find one that you’re interested in meeting, you can then join our WaitWhile queue to get in line to meet the dog.

Thank you for your compassion and support.

With heartfelt gratitude,
IVHS & SPCA

On February 3, 2021, Eli Lopez was traveling southbound on San Antonio Ave. while approaching Ninth St., when a Pomona Police motor officer witnessed Lopez drive through a four-way stop sign, causing an immediate traffic hazard to motorists. Due to Lopez’s excessive speed, and having the community’s safety in mind, the motor officer pursued the suspect vehicle for a short distance before shutting off all emergency lights and sirens, discontinuing the pursuit. Lopez continued at a high rate of speed and collided with another vehicle at San Antonio Ave. and Philadelphia St., resulting in fatal injuries.

After an extensive investigation by our Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), Lopez faced trial and was found guilty of charges to include Homicide, Evading a Peace Officer, Grand Theft Auto and Hit and Run Resulting in Injury or Death.

The investigation consisted of countless hours of interviews, evidence collection, video and speed analysis, and multiple search warrants. We are grateful for the collaborative effort of all law enforcement partners involved, including the victim's loved ones.

Walmart Fire - Arrest Made

On December 30, 2023, around 4:32 PM, a Walmart loss prevention officer detained an individual who was attempting to exit the store without paying for merchandise. After reluctantly returning the stolen items, the same individual reentered the store and proceeded to the paper towel aisle. In response to the confrontation with loss prevention, the individual then lit paper products on fire. The fire triggered the store's sprinkler system, causing substantial damage to merchandise, shelving units, and the store ceiling. The severity of the damage forced the store to close for several days, resulting in a projected revenue loss of $1.2 million. Fortunately, no other customers in the store were injured, and the prompt response by the LA County Fire Department prevented the fire from spreading.

Following a thorough investigation by the LA County Fire Department Arson Investigation Unit, the individual, later identified as 36-year-old Francesca Ortiz-Garcia, was located and arrested in the City of Upland. The Pomona Police Department Detective Bureau assisted in presenting a criminal case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which filed a felony count of § 451(b) PC—ARSON.

We extend our gratitude to the LA County Fire Department and Upland PD for their valuable assistance in this case. We value our collaborative relationship with the LA County Fire Department and the joint efforts in solving arson cases, leading to numerous convictions.
