PostalAnnex+ is a chain of over 260 franchised business service centers located across 22 states in the United States of America. They are one of five brands franchised by Annex Brands, Inc., headquartered in San Diego. Usually found in grocery-anchored shopping centers, PostalAnnex+ offers shipping and back-office services. History
After retiring in the early 1980s from a career in the printing
and publishing industry, Jack Lentz opened the first PostalAnnex+ on July 1, 1985 in the University City neighborhood of San Diego, CA. Located next door to a U.S. Post Office, PostalAnnex+ often received referrals from the Post Office’s employees for packaging supplies and packing service. After opening two more PostalAnnex+ locations, Jack and his wife Martha created the PostalAnnex+ franchise system. In 1986, Postal Annex+, Inc. became the franchisor of the PostalAnnex+ system. The first franchise was sold later that year. Since 1986, the brand has grown to over 260 locations across 22 states. Company Structure
PostalAnnex+ is supported as a franchise by Annex Brands, Inc., formerly Postal Annex+, Inc. Along with PostalAnnex+, Annex Brands’ locations operate as AIM Mail Center, Navis Pack & Ship, Handle With Care Packaging Store and Sunshine Pack & Ship. Headquartered in San Diego, Annex Brands provides new PostalAnnex+ franchisees a two-week training program in San Diego followed by up to one week of in-store training upon opening. Each franchisee also receives ongoing operational and marketing support as part of their royalty and marketing fees. A national convention is held every 12 – 18 months. Special Programs
PostalAnnex+ franchisees are encouraged to be active in their communities, participating as good citizens in supporting local charitable efforts. To date, PostalAnnex+ franchisees have reached out to their communities by providing free faxing services to job seekers; sponsoring breast cancer research through the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure; and participating as drop-off centers for food drives. After the 2003 and 2007 wildfires in Southern California, some franchisees offered free mailbox rentals to those who lost their homes. Other franchisees have participated in programs supporting military spouses, including shipping Valentine’s notes from military families to their servicemember in Iraq. In 2006, PostalAnnex+ sold “moving stress-relief kits”; 10 percent of the cost of every moving kit was donated to the American Red Cross.
