Platte County junior wide receiver Tres Baskerville finished with three catches for 74 yards in Friday's win over Fort Osage. Platte County junior wide receiver Tres Baskerville now has a 50-plus-yard touchdown In each of the season's first three games, the most recent a 57-yard catch-and-run in the third quarter to provide separation needed to pull away from Fort Osage. The No. 2-ranked Pirates stayed unbeaten behind quarterback Rocco Marriott's four total TDs, three passing — two more to junior wide receiver Braiden Stevens — an early one on the ground.

Fort Osage took advantage of a miscue to put up the game's first two points, but Platte County turned in a lockdown defensive effort behind solid efforts of senior defensive end Archie Wesley (four tackles, fumble recovery), senior linebackers Brock Fowler (five tackles plus one for loss and 1 1/2 sacks) and Cobe Pollard (six tackles) and senior safety Darrell Smith (three tackles for loss). The Pirates ride the momentum of back-to-back conference wins in a return to home this week in a rare clash with a Kansas opponent: 2023 Class 6A semifinalist Washburn Rural (1-1). Read more:

A recent swoon seems more indicative of a difficult schedule for Platte County with senior Karlee Riggs and freshman Miah Omoike promising in attack, junior Gia Derose excelling at libero, senior Sailor Bane and junior Carissa Bacon splitting setter duties and juniors Malin Cole and Emma Macaluso forming an effective duo in the middle. The Pirates' don't get a reprieve this week, looking to build momentum in conference play after a 2-2 start and then a trip to the Winnetonka Invitational on the weekend. Read more:

Platte County impressed with a fourth-place finish in the Gold Division of Belton's Pirate Invitational on Saturday despite facing all Class 2 competition. Pirates senior Deacon Gutshall claimed first in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, while fellow senior star Palmer Keith dominated the 200 IM and added a runnerup finish in the 100 breaststroke. Platte County senior Brooklynn Mahowski and sophomore Macy Doll made their varsity debuts with veteran coach Zach Keith exploring the depth of his lineup as the process to fine-tune a lineup with an inexperienced roster continues. In the midst of a long string of road games to start the season, Platte County came up with two goals on either side of halftime with retooling roster full of new faces snapping a brief skid with a 4-2 victory at Fort Osage. Pirates senior forward Tug Thornton scored one and assisted one while junior midfielders Thien Nguyen and Ian Mathews and sophomore Camden Noller also put up goals. Read more:
