Here is my annual holiday baking round-up for 2024!

I baked:

- Four rounds of Potica (sold 6 loaves — not as great as previous years, but maybe next year will be better!). One round was for pictures/video/personal consumption, second was for loaves my mom gifted to family and for Thanksgiving, and the last two were for orders. Total, this is roughly 24 hours of just making Potica.

- No-Bake Cookies. I had to do something that wasn’t too hard or involved. Plus, they are one of my favorites!

- “Quilted” (/“Marbled”) Sugar Cookies. I really wanted these to turn out. And they did! But I stopped after four because they were TOO involved for a Friday night after work. I ended up just marbling the dough and doing cutouts. I love the idea, and maybe I’ll give them another try next year now that I know how to mentally prepare myself.

- Ginger Molasses Cookies. This was a new recipe that I tried, and they were both delicious and aesthetically pleasing!

- Cornmeal Thumbprint Cookies with Strawberry Jam. These caught my eye several years ago and I gave them a try this year. I really like them! I took a shortcut and used already-made strawberry jam — mostly to save time, but also to save our own strawberries.

- My BBCC Cookies (AKA: Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk Cookies). You’ve all heard it before — my “signature” cookie that combines the nuttiness of brown butter with some tang from sourdough discard and floral notes from my own homemade Tahitian vanilla. I am SO proud of this cookie and what I have made my own. If you know, you know 🙂

I gifted a couple of cookie boxes to close friends and also took a box to welcome our new neighbors and introduce ourselves. I may have to make cookie boxes a regular holiday thing going forward!

I am opening up pre-orders for Potica! I know it is a little early, but I want everyone to have as much time as possible to order!

This particular bake is my best-seller every year, but it also is extremely time consuming and expensive to bake. I have previously sold 6” loaves, but I am baking larger ones this year!

So! Here are the details:

I will be doing pickups in Plainfield on December 22nd, the evening of the 23rd (5:30pm or after), or on Christmas Eve!

I will be offering 8.5” loaves this year for $20/loaf.

To order:

- Pre-orders will need to be prepaid.
- Message me the quantity you would like and your preferred pick up day
- I can accept payment via Venmo/cashapp/zelle. Include your payment information for me to send a request for payment and you’ll be added to the order list!

It is almost time for Potica!

Never heard of it?

🎄Potica (Poh-teet-sah) is a Slovenian nut roll that has been a holiday tradition in my family for years — the recipe I use is the same one my great-grandma Agnes used (she was from Yugoslavia)! It is a rolled sweet bread with a delicious walnut filling (and my family’s recipe is unlike all the other recipes I’ve come across — making it, in my opinion, one of the best ones 😋).

I try to prep the fillings ahead of time to save time, but the entire process to make one batch still takes about 7 hours. It is worth it every time!

Our renovated second story gets so much natural light ✨

We are still unpacking and finding spots for things, but this is a major reason why I wasn’t as active late last year into early this year. We are happy it’s finished, but boy, we’re still trying to recover 😅

I started raising monarchs last summer and it was an absolutely beautiful experience. I currently have 6 caterpillars I’m raising and will release as monarch butterflies once they eclose from their chrysalis!

Hi! 👋🏼

This is an official post to let you know that .joy is going be a little bit more besides just baking going forward.

Since I’ve started this page, though I still love baking, I have found other things that bring me just as much joy: gardening and plants, raising monarchs, antiquing, etc.

With that being said, I’m hoping to share more things that fit within this realm. I’m not going to stray from the path too far, but expect some posts relating to flowers, houseplants and home projects amongst regular baking posts.

I will still share if and when I do any porch pick-ups, because I still do plan on baking! I just need to give myself other options so I can manage baking without feeling like I have to do it nonstop just for “content.”

So basically, posting more of what makes me happy, not trying to stick to a schedule or specifics.
