PROJECT: GOSPEL
Thru the years, Gospel music has been an important element in the Black church. It has brought folks together to enjoy and celebrate of the church. I plan on recording Gospel music in several ways. First, I will develop a pilot film that explores the music of the MT. Olivet church in Rochester, NY. It will involve several choirs that sing at the church. I will include several interviews with Louis Banks (Musical Director), Dr. Rickey Bernard Harvey (Pastor) and several others who will describe what Gospel means to them. It should be 30 minutes in length.
As far as the breakdown and shooting schedule is concerned, we should be able to shoot it in 4 hours at Mt. Olivet. First, I plan to shoot each song three (3) times at different angles to enhance the editing process. The interviews will done on another day. It should only take 3 or 4 hours. I will edit the work at CLEARVIEW FILMWERKS. I will include a brief history of Gospel Music to dhow the different kinds.
I will not charge my services to do this for you. I believe that I could get it aired on WXXI-TV 21. I am good friends with Irene Fink (Program Director) at WXXI-TV. There are other outlets (Netflix, YouTube, Vimeo, Amazon Studios, Goggle and others) out there that are looking for programming that would interested. Any monies brought in would be donated to the church and CLEARVIEW FILMWERKS.
Once the pilot is developed I would also like to explore other types of church music to show that there many types of this kind of church music, not just Gospel. My father, Edward Taylor was a music teacher and choir director that performed all around Rochester. I would to celebrate his success and dedicate the project to him.
I believe that this project will examine the wonderful world of the church and how folks enjoy the power of its music.
